Engine temp display on control panel

Featured Replies

Hi, im new here, and owner of Fabia mk2 2007  1.9 PD TDI

There is no engine temp (around 90°C) or scale of temp (analog scale) for car on my control panel. Is there anyway to display engine temp on cars control panel. Or is this an upgrade?

As far as I know, there is no temp display. You get blue symbol for cold, which goes off once warm and will glow red if overheating and you may well also get a warning sound. You might get a similar light and chime (Three times) If low on coolant.

Not sure if maki-dot displays have an extra display for temp but know others have either fitted or tried fitting an auxiliary temp gauge.

If its not a sports model and you drive "Normally" I would not worry.

Maxidot dashboards have a coolant gauge instead of the light. They may also have the option to display oil temperature on the Maxidot display.

The Maxidot on the pre FL does not have a temp. display.

Do you have a concern as the standard system identified by mrgf is deemed suitable by the manufacturer and I do not remember any posts on overheating of the 105bhp 1.9TDI, only the VRS diesel TDI's when tuned, but if there are any worries an OBD2 adaptor and Torque App on an Android phone will report temperature. This should not be positioned to cause distraction from the road.

An indicator light that goes out when the coolant is still below operating temperature is not ideal. Even the gauge in cars that have it doesn't show the true coolant temperature. It's been a bugbear with VAG cars for a very long time.

Accurate or not, in everyday use they set a baseline for "normal" levels and would show anything  outside expectations. The only issue may be if the engine sensor is placed in a position that gives slow response to changes - i.e. in an area not subject to flow.

Normal coolant temperature is 90 deg. The gauge is set up to read 90 deg at temperatures between 75 and 105. VAG's excuse is they didn't want drivers getting bothered because the needle might be moving around a bit.

I think many cars have this system, now anyway. My old 2002 Yaris does and its never shown red in 20 years or so!

My car is the same, If you want a temp gauge get an obd adapter and torque and run it off your phone, which is what I do.

Easiest, cheapest and least permanent way of having a reading of water temps. And can be used to read more than just water temps, and clear codes.

...As an aside, my (Very) Old Saab 900 Turbo from the eighties, used to have a gauge but the temperature sensor was so high in the rad that a low coolant level meant the car gave no notice of overheating anyway!
