Servicing

Featured Replies

Octavia 1.6TDI Service. After years of paying what i think is extremely high prices for servicing my car to keep the warranty. My car has now come out of warranty and i have decided to carry out the servicing my self. Took me around two hours for first service. I was paying just short of £200 for a basic service and over £300 for a major service with the dealer.

Its has cost me two hours of my time and I will be looking at getting a new oil filter screw in cartridge has mine has a deformed socket head. they are made of a tough plastic and who ever worked on the car prior have obviously not used the correct size socket. I am also interested if these become brittle over time and crack/break with fatigue.( let me know your experience)

All appears to be as it should be no warning lights on. I do not know of any way to perform a fuel purge without the aid of a computer or diagnostic tool. So i ensured the fuel cup was full of diesel before fitting the top plate.

I expect next time i service i can do in  well within a hour once i have every tool to hand and now i know what i am doing.

I have used high quality parts ( VAG Cert) and saved a lot of money.

That said if i encounter a problem does anyone know of a affordable diagnostic tool that actually works well with the skoda

Well done. It is very satisfying knowing that not only have you saved money but that the job has been done correctly and with care.

Thank you for the reply. I would of thought there was a simple procedure to follow for purging / priming the fuel system. I used to have a LR Discovery TD5 engine that had a simple procedure to prime the fuel system. I know that if you try to start without fuel it can damage components. I am also looking for a service manual if you know where to o Tain one Octavia 2015 1.6 Tdi

You don’t need VCDS for the fuel filter, just top off with diesel when you replace the filter. I actually, top off with Liqui Moly Diesel Purge, because I rarely change the filter and want some fuel system cleaning. Not sure does it help or everything is in my head.. :D

Lubricate the gasket with diesel as well.

I used to purge my old 1.9TDI by turning on and off the ignition. Not sure is this applicable for the EA288 engines.

Hi frinklyn that’s what I did filled the filter housing once new filter was put in before if refitted the upper metal plate assembly with fuel pipes on. Can you recommend anywhere I can get a service manual such as Haynes etc. I can only see web based tech guides. Must admit not repaired or serviced a car for sometime and did enjoy doing it.

@MABRO I also like DIY jobs like you do, that’s why I registered in this forum actually :)

I don’t use anything specific as a guide, but when I want to do something myself, I check more than one source then collect and filter the best of all of them.

I use google, youtube, this forum, golf mk7 forum and audi forums as well. Our engines are from EA288 family used by A3 and Golf 7 as well, so don’t limit your search by skoda only.

drive2.com is also a great place DIY stuff, you can you Chrome browser translate option.

If you want good quality instructions on paper, you can pay 7 euros for an hour in Erwin system and download everything you need. Then I think you have to print it, because there is some kind of protection, but better check this thread about it

i have found some info. but really would like the wiring diagrams so i can check for circuit faults and wiring breaks/shorts etc.

i am searching the web and thanks for the information. appreciate your help and advice.

All that info is in Erwin. Look at the fault finding or maintenance section for this kind of detail for your car.

I did my own services on my old 2015 1.6 CR TDi. I must have changed the fuel filter about 10 times and I never topped up with diesel and the car is still going strong on nearly 200k miles.

That’s good to know, I have know a few friends who have encountered problems some time  later, we all diagnosed either poor quality fuel caused problem or possible air in system. The problem happened roughly a week after they had changed fuel filter
