Undertray panel hanging off - how to secure it?

Featured Replies

Hello!

Recently I noticed the rear, left-hand side under tray panel (just in front of the rear wheel arch) hanging off. It had come loose at one of the points at which it fixes to the underneath of the car and hung by the remaining points.

By simply pushing it up, it seemed to click back into place and everything was fine. However, it keeps happening and I was wondering if it should actually be fixed by something more than what feels like a magnetic contact.

Does anyone know how it should connect? I presume a screw and a washer should do the job - so I was wondering if anyone knows the right bore and length?

Many thanks!

Yes, the person who last worked on your car didn't do a good job of putting back the under-sump protection tray. If I remember correctly (when I last did an oil change on my husband's SE), it is three screws down the each side, two large at the back and three at the front.

Would suggest getting the car onto a ramp (you can buy ramps from your favourite stuff seller) and find out which bolt or screw is missing.

The local dealer replaced my undertray fixings with cable ties when they worked on my Superb.  I was well miffed, but hadn't notice for a few months until I was next under the car, so I can vouch for cable ties doing an okay job.

Wouldn't have minded so much, but the fixings I bought to replace the missing ones had only been on there a few months :speechless:

This has happened to me too - It's something I intend on bringing up with the dealer on the next service.

Seriously is it so much to ask that panels be put back securely?

No - it isn't - and I bet you'll now get down on your hands/knees and check it has been done properly.  Even if the undertray is broken, replacement parts are not expensive.  It is lazyness.
