SUPERB 2.0TSI Induction Kit 3T

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I'm looking at the possibility of fitting an Induction Kit to my Superb 2.0 TSI, (2012). I know RamAir used to list one, but this has now been removed from their application guide, no one there can tell me why, but It's still listed for the Golf mk6 or Scirocco with this engine so I'm confused. Without suggesting "leaving it stock" or "trying a panel filter" , could anyone suggest a sensible viable option that could work? This has got to be the place where the knowledge is!! Thanks in advance.👍👍

I'd guess this is because Ramair look badly at their staff saying "because it doesn't sell" or even "because it doesn't work" to prospective customers.

Your car already has a cold air intake and an air filter that's bigger than the car needs. Why spend money messing with it?

Thanks for the reply, but as I mentioned I'm looking for assistance with a particular thing, not a suggestion to "keep it stock". I have spoken to RamAir technical who have confirmed that the JFK-123BK part fits. Despite the cars original airbox providing apparently adequate airflow, the induction kit will give a touch more and the car will be rolling road re-mapped with the filter in place. Either way, regardless of any or no change in bhp they simply sound better.

You won't get more airflow, the stock system is already more than adequate, even for a modified engine.

As is so often the case with kits like these, they move the air intake into the hot engine bay where it will pull in hot air and reduce power. You can rationalise all you want, but all you'll end up with is less power and a hole in your wallet.

It doesn't matter what you buy, you will think it's great unless you do before and after dyno runs. So don't do that.

And make sure any included hoses are pretty coloured. :)

Well you've got me thinking! I was going for plain black, but why not throw caution to the wind and go for Red!! 🤪🤪👍👍

If Rationale came into it I wouldn't have bought a car as mundane and mediocre as the Superb in the first place. The Idea is to create an interesting more fun version. I'm not concerned about a few quid on an intake, the carbonio ones on my flying spur cost more than the entire Skoda!  As am sure even the most limited of imaginations can grasp, whilst writing a remap, it is better to do so  with the air intake that the vehicle will be fitted with, regardless of whether or not that intake provides any benefit. Sometimes things are just done for fun, the cost and the effectiveness is irrelevant, but if the sound means the drive is more enjoyable then nobody can put a price on that. Besides, the remap will give it another 60bhp or so, bringing it in line with what it should have had in the first place. It would be a very boring world if we all thought the same or drove "taxi spec" Skodas! Hopefully my own findings may provide a solution to some, distain to others and bring a smile to the faces of many. ☺️☺️

Interesting thinking.... My Superb was mapped about 8 years ago, (AMD Tuning) & all they recommended was a change to a Pipercross ait-filter.

Otherwise it's stock, & still the car of choice for everyday driving. It won't keep up with SWMBO's R wagon but it burns less fuel, it has more room inside & it's much quieter...

There's money in the bank for a replacement (I've never owned a car for 8+ years before) but there's nothing obvious out there...(& no, I don't want a taxi either).

Ok official figures in.

STOCK - 197.4 bhp @ 5102 Rpm Engine temp ,91deg

STOCK WITH INDUCTION KIT - 199.0 bhp @ 5090 Rpm. 94deg

REMAP - 262.1bhp @ 4890 Rpm. 92deg

REMAP WITH INDUCTION KIT - 263.6 bhp @ 4890 Rpm. 91deg

so other than looking cool and sounding marginally better at low speeds, the RamAir kit hasn't done much at all. There's no wastegate chatter or dump valve noise like on my Golf GTi Mk7 with the same kit either.

Yes overall I'm quite pleased with the superb, I had a Golf GTi Mk7 as one of my other cars, (along with an old Flying Spur and Saab 9000 aero), but I couldn't justify the huge difference in value between the Golf and the Skoda, I sold the Golf, bought the Skoda and put £10k in the bank. I just wanted to make the Skoda a bit nicer looking, and more enjoyable. I'll keep it as a daily runner as it has a reasonable mileage and impeccable history, there's not a mark on it. It's useful for long journeys and trips to the tip, and for what it cost, it's worth keeping, even if it's not as fast as the Saab, or as comfy as the Bentley. I get 24mpg on short journeys round town and nearly 40 on a run. It's a pleasant car, although it definitely needed a few minor tweaks to stop my eyes from glazing over with boredom.

Hi, I've found my Superb remap figures, AMD set it up for 95 octane petrol, 'cos higher octane fuels were not in sale in this area.

The results were stock, 211.9 bhp @  5464 rpm & 214.7 lb/ft @ 3119 rpm. After the remap it made 249.0 bhp @ 5844 rpm & 266.8 lb/ft @ 3912 rpm.

The  power & torque curves on the graph are very linear, just decent increases after the remap. More important to me, before the map 4K & 5K rpms =

160 bhp & 200 bhp, after the map they improved to 203 bhp & 244 bhp.

As for the driving experience, it's still quiet & docile to drive, but with a decent amount of grunt when required & good economy too.

It won't keep up with my R hatch (of course....) & the 2WD does demand a little restraint when attempting a quick departure, it's still quicker than it looks, 'tis a proper Q-car.......

Cheers, DC.

I've not driven anything the size of a Bentley (in the UK, I've rented a few barges across the pond....), the biggest here would have been a Mk 4 Ford Zephyr &/or an Austin Westminster. One problem for me is that I own a 1965 house c/w a 1965 garage, which means that a Superb 2 is probably the largest car around that fit into it. I have a few inches at the rear for the up & over door to shut, & + just enough space to open the drivers door.

When i was running a VW EOS, (much shorter but with a long drivers door) it was easier to retract the folding tin-top into the boot & walk into the car.

Back in 2004 our 3 week old diesel V70 died on the outskirts of Dover (injector problem) & it's replacement (a local Rental Car) was a SAAB 9.3, badged as a 1.8 turbo even though it had a 2.0 petrol lump. I didn't enjoy that car at all, & that was after a bunch of varied roads in & around Luxembourg.

It seemed to have passive rear wheel steering, which was something of a surprise....

Boredom is no longer a problem for us (probably age-related....) but after 8 years of Superb ownership I still can't find an obvious replacement.

The V70 was a bit boring but with no unpleasant habits, so it went after 9 months. I reverted to my previous choice, 2 more Mk 3 Mondeo V6 estates... instead. Much more fun....
