Towbar Wiring - Removing/getting to rear of fuse panel behind glovebox

Featured Replies

Having recently acquired a Skoda Octavia 1.6Tdi pre facelift on a 20 Plate my first Skoda, I could use some help.

I am in the process of fitting a towbar (Brink Demountable) that is now installed and connecting the dedicated ECS wiring kit at the front of the car to the Can Bus H & L at the body ECU that I have done after removing the glove box lid and side trim panels with no problems but need to get access to the rear of the fuse panel to insert three wires that provide the Ign & Live supply to the Trailer Module.

Does anyone know how to get at rear of fuse panel i.e unclip it to lower it ? I can see three clips that seem to hold it to plastic panel but it does not want to move see photo attached.

Many Thanks

John

There are several latching clips, circled on your picture. I can't recall if it's 3 or 4 in total.

You need to release them all and pull the fusebox forwards. It'll probably be fairly stiff and movement will still be restricted by wires, but lots of gentle wiggling should get it out enough to get a hand behind.

Next, remove the purple locking strip from the row you want to add the cables - it pulls out to the left of the fusebox.

Finally, easiest method to get a new cable lined up is to put the flat end of a plastic cable tie or similar through from the front, clip the cable over the end of it (just as it grips a fuse blade), then pull the cable tie back through.

I did finally get it released and it enabled me to lower it enough to get to the back of it after releasing the clips and very carefully levering it forward.

I did remove the two lower relays to help get it passed the glove box frame.

Before I read your post I can up with the same method of inserting a thin electrical screwdriver through the aperture from the front of panel were I wanted to locate wires to guide them in.

I did not see any locking strip but after pushing in pulled cable to check latch had located on cable pins.

Just got a screen full of warning light that hopefully will clear after a drive.

Stop start , Parking brake, TPS 😠

Many thanks for reply.

Did your instructions state connections F132 and F133 in the fusebox? Mine do but i can’t find them in the fusebox.

I’d be interested to know how you get on, as I’m trying to decide to fit a bypass relay or dedicated wiring…or get someone else to install it. I’m not as flexible as I used to be ☹️
