No 12 volt sockets?

Featured Replies

Are there no 12 volt sockets inside the car ??

It’s a shiny new 2021 1.5 eTec SE L DSG estate and I love it so far. Maybe I just can’t find it/them, but why wouldn’t Skoda fit one or two inside the car, not just in the boot space in my estate?

None In the car. USB-C only in the cabin and one 12v in the boot

Thanks, Sneal.
Surely these USB C sockets only put out 2-3 volts, so have you any idea how I’m supposed to run my dash cam ?

Just seems a backwards step but maybe there’s a reason that I don’t know about 🤷🏼‍♂️

How can any USB put out 2 volts when the spec is 5 volts?

Not sure of the voltage but the one by the rear view mirror is sufficient for my Nextbase dashcam

USB sockets provide 5V, which is what dashcams need when connected via USB (the 12V adapters actually output 5V).

This seems crazy that there's no traditional 12V / cigar lighter in the car.

Looks like I'll need an extension for my tyre inflator!

Does anyone know if the USB C ports are 5V only, or if they support higher voltages aka Power Delivery?

If so it might be possible to get an adapter cable to give a 12V socket.

I know from unfortunate experience of having a puncture that the tyre inflator that comes with the car has plenty of cable to go round the vehicle.

Even if they did support higher voltages which is unlikely, they would be power limited. A 12V socket usually has a 10A fuse for stuff you plug into it, USB-C spec allows 3A maximum.

I would expect Škoda to be using traditional and reliable 5V ~2A ports.

The USB C is on the wrong side for a UK dash cam and I hate hanging cables, so I just wired it into the fuse box as usual with a £5 ebay cable and a £1 piggyback fuse. Then you get your choice of always on or on with ignition.
