VRS PETROL MPG Competition

Featured Replies

So after 5 months of av 32 mpg , decided to do a 16 mile run down the coast and set her at 55mph. I got 54mpg. The picture shows 51 as i hit traffic before i stopped for the pic. Anyone getting any better on the petrol VRS. I think that is a marvellous MPG in a petrol car.  20210630_163135.thumb.jpg.13c132c3eea3748ecb3660bf89acb9fc.jpg

Can't top that, but on a 250 mile journey over half term, fully loaded with four adults and luggage, I averaged 49 mpg. Obviously was just cruising at 70 but still very impressive. Petrol vrs.

Does this count??? :D

Brilliant  :D

Just got 46.3 (according to the app) on a 55 mile trip down a single lane A road (with some spirited overtakes). Only 1.5k miles in so pretty chuffed!

I win!

The sedan does have the best aerodynamics in its class so I am not really surprised to see owners reporting  good consumption on a longer run

Same here - I've also hit the mid 50s a couple of times on motorway runs, just setting the cruise control to about 65 seems to be a sweet spot between not feeling like I'm going too slow and getting a decent MPG.

However, it is quite boring.....nice to know it *can* do it though.

I've been really impressed by the fuel consumption on mine.   On my previous MkIII VRS diesel, my long-term average was around 42mpg so I was expecting the petrol one to be much worse but in fact I seem to be getting high 30s on average.  And even better on long drives for example, yesterday evening I drove 270 miles from Ambleside in the Lake District to our home in north Hampshire and averaged 40.3 for the whole journey, despite wanting to cover the ground fast so certainly not driving for economy.  I honestly think the diesel vrs would only have got a few mpg better on that drive.

Not too bad I guess.

Petrol VRS wagon here.

Just got back from a day's drive, 80% on freeways.

Using adaptive cruise control as much as possible.

Max speed limit was 110km/h but was often reduced to 80-100 due to presence of other traffic.

Over several hundred kms the average was 5.2l/100km which translates to 54 British MPG.

I am very pleased with that. It would be incredible to see it go below 5.0l/100km but it seemed to stabilise at 5.2.

Petrol RS hatch here.

I only drive in Sport mode (individual, everything set to sport except dampers - they are set to comfort, as I have it lowered).
I also do not drive lightly, I like to go fast from when a green light comes, and love accelerating when possible.

My city consumption: 14-18l/100km

My autobahn consumption: 7.5-9l/100km (with ACC on and speed around 142-150km/h)

Oh and I only buy 98 fuel.

Coming from previously owned 2011 RS diesel - this new RS eats x3 more than old one :D

That cannay be right , were you travelling in a vacuum or going down a massive hill that stretched for 13 miles.

I'm assuming a glitch!!!   Still no idea how it worked those numbers out though.

The real value is in the new picture....

Are you guys noticing a fall off now the weather is getting colder? Guess it might be more obvious come January or February though

@sneal  the turbos love cold air, there is less traction / friction on the roads if you are still on summer tyres so that helps economy.

You are not de-icing the car and are you using heated screen, rear screen or mirrors yet are you.

So unless you are doing short journeys with cold starts has the fuel consumption really increased because of the still mild November weather.

Or could it be if using E10 fuel since September?

@roottoot thanks for that, a useful insight.

I only asked because I’m seeing less of a fall off in economy than I expected, based on the last few years of a 1.4tsi Superb II.
