Vrs sound generator obd availability to turn it on?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, my first post,

New to skoda and bought a 2018 vrs tdi dsg, loving it so far, so much so I already got a stage one done.

Anyway.............

Seen a few posts about the sound generator and turning it off?

Mine has already been turned off by a previous owner! So I was hoping someone can help with turning it back on?

I'm in Doncaster, anyone local who can access the car with obdeleven?

Thanks in advance, appreciated

If it has it there will be a control module called sound, soundactor or something similar. IN that module is the level of the soundaktor. 0% is off. 100% is fully on.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, Yeah I know where it is ie the top level code I just don't have the box to do it, didn't really want to pay £80+ for the box just to do one code if I can nip somewhere and get it done a lot cheaper i would prefer that,

@Westyvrs1 - if you go and have a look in the VCDS section - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/23-diagnostics-amp-vcds/

you will hopefully find somebody close to you.  If your VRS has DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control), then you have the ability to turn it down from the MIB system.

Thank you, appreciated

Simple answer from a fellow 184 TDi owner. Don't bother as it sounds very artificial. The natural engine sound is better under acceleration.

My original 245 doesn't have DCC and I can adjust its level. This may or may not be relevant to the diesel...

The natural 4 cylinder diesel noise?! Surely not 😁

That's why I want the sound turning back on, there's no option to do so in the asmusdson system, plus I am also looking for a compatable induction kit for that wooshing sound,

4 cylinder diesel > fake nonsense

I don’t even have a diesel either.

A tip for you I have mine set to 70% so you can't hear it in normal mode only sport.

I know its not the best sound but I want to hear the revs when in spot and manual to know shift points etc, its too quiet without (absolutely not a complaint btw!!)

Cheers, I still need to find or buy the obd eleven unit to do it,

Like you said when in manual I can't hear anything,

I think you're the first poster so say the Octavia is too quiet.

Mines the same, has the 2018/19 model got more insulation? Hence why I want mine turning back up,

I suppose I have added more sound deadening but I like to hear the engine when pressing on, suppose the rest of the time it is far too noisy!!!

Can anyone advise, so I got an odbeleven, found the setting, and it says its already at 100%, shows no faults, does this mean someone unplugged it even though it shows these screens? As it's still not working

Thanks in advance

I would presume so. Might be worth a look.

Cheers mate, I would have just assumed it would have found it as a fault/ ie not plugged in????

Hi all,

My last post I said my vrs sound actuator wasn't working so followed some advice and bought an odbeleven, checked the system and got the screens below, I also removed the cover near the wipers and found the unit is plugged in OK,

The problem is no matter what I do I don't get any engine sounds? Any advice on what could be my next step as it says its working fine on the odbeleven, I did read somewhere about the voltage can be changed to 12v to stop it working but have no idea if that is it or where to find the setting,

Any help appreciated

Did you buy the car from a Skoda dealer? If so, I'd tell them to check/fix it for you.

Otherwise, you could check the following adaption channels in the CAN-gateway:

IDE01996-SFT00169-Installation list: specified installations-Actuator For Structure-borne Sound,coded
ENG137058-SFT00169-GW_Enable_CAN_Timeout_DTC-Actuator For Structure-borne Sound,Enabled

Have you tried going into basic settings and resetting of all adaption values?

I haven't if I'm honest, I've heard you can mess things up if you don't know what your doing,

ok thank you, does my odbeleven have that access?

All that does is reset the structure borne actuator factory settings. Basically like a hard reset and sets the volume to 100%.

You are right with resetting certain modules like brakes etc. But this one is safe as I have done it when I reverted back to using the actuator, which was quickly deactivated as it annoyed the hell out of me.

ok ill give it a try mate, thank you for the info

Boy that actuator is a marmite thing. Personally I hate that false engine sound. Always had my engine setting in comfort to virtually cut it out. Each to their own though. Mind you, when I was a very young kid in my pedal car, I was the actuator, as I pedalled along saying out loud, brrmm brrmm.
