2021 Octavia VRS iv driving mode default (please explain)

Featured Replies

Guys after a bit of info please as I can't seem to find any threads on this issue I'm having, so here goes.....

Everytime I switch the ignition off the car automatically forgets what driving mode I am in and reverts back to "normal" and always starts in "E-mode" (I like to hear the petrol engine turn over before I pull away, I don't want to set off solely on electric everytime then wait for the petrol engine to kick in)

Now this is a little annoying as I always find myself going through a bit of a process to get the car into the mode I prefer to be in, which is "individual" as even pressing the "mode button" there is a bit of a frustrating delay just to get the infotainment system to boot up and bring the "mode" screen to life.

I'm getting a little bit bored of setting the car up everytime I get into the car, I just want to get in press the start button and drive away in the mode I want without faffing about, is there any way of setting my preferences as a default?

Sorry it's probably been asked many times before but all your advise and answers is greatly appreciated 👍

I think we all have this issue. We would prefer it to remember the mode but it does not.

Well what a crock of **** that is then, I would love for someone to explain the good reason to deny us to be able to default our own preferred driving mode.....

This is the same with the petrol version which I have. Octavia RS MY21 Defaults to normal mode once engine switched off with no way to set user preferences as the car is not 'online' in Australia. Bit naff.

I thought the whole point of choosing the iV was to use electric mode when available, if you wanted to hear petrol engine then should have bought the petrol version.

But I agree mode button tends to become an unused gimmick, as it defaults back to normal each time

Hi All my sevice department told me it is not supposed to remember the mode you were last in. This is because if you switch off the assisted braking and it remembered that in your profile it would be a problem next time you get in. It only remembers the individual mode settings you set in individual. Its a pain as we know especially as if you had an older car before you got used to it. My thought would be hey Skoda tec's sort out the background  program to never remember the braking off mode. That way we can all get the results we would like. But I think thats a long way off with all the bugs that are in the current system. Nice to have is way down the list for them i would think. Currently I now have only one software bug left, which is it will nit remember the clima sync function,. Which my service says it should do. But given that it ain't going in to come back with more bugs again. I will give it a few months to settle down.

It's not a good reason but the reason is dieselgate - VAG have got scared of anything that can permanently change emissions so from around 2019 onward they've made all settings that they think can change emissions return to their default on every startup.

It's the same in pretty much every ice car I've driven over the last few years, Mercedes, BMW, Vag group etc, driving modes have always reverted to the default.

Why on Earth do you need to hear the engine running?

It's because of the law. The car must start in the mode the emissions were reported. So. Zero emissions.

Can't agree with you more, I have the IV as well and its like you have to set it up every time, Press mode, change to Hybrid and untick the tick box, then turn lane assist off, annoying as hell, dont get me started on Adaptive Cruise either as that's ****e. Mines a company car so I aint really bothered about MPG, so I just use it in engine mode - cheapest estate for tax with out going EV , I couldn't do my job with an EV as there would be too much time wasted charging.

Yeah, setting the car up is a bit annoying every time you drive. Why don't you like adaptive cruise?

I feel that it slows you down too much when coming behind a car, the distance is set to the least as well, maybe i am stubborn but i dont need something telling me how to drive. Normal cruise is much better.

Only time i like it is in road works, set to 55 and let car infront determine the speed, however the distance is too far again and when another car goes in the gap it puts the brakes on to slow you down.

its like its too safe, but only safe for you the driver of the car, i would hate to be the car behind with brake lights always going on etc.

I feel like the Adaptive cruise was setup for 6 lane highways in the US rather than a jam packed UK motorway / dual carriageway.

I have the ACC set to the second distance setting, when on sections of the M4 with the chevron"keep your distance" markers it follows at that distance, and when a passenger times the gap its following the "2 second rule".

I think we've all become so used to following too close that when we use ACC we think it's leaving too big a gap.
