Laurin & Klement now poor relations to SEL in 2021 line up

Featured Replies

Skoda have dropped the 4x4 TDI from the L&K engines / options list and only offer it on the SEL. Strange enough they still sell the 280TSI with 4x4.

Is there a logic to this decision?

Is the TDI 4x4 regarded as work horse and not good enough for the Superb anymore?

The Kodiaq as a "proper" off roader is still being offered with a this combinations.

Probably didn’t sell very many

Last months SMMT car sales figures (June) show diesel cars sold were down to lowly 8.1% (15,027 cars of 186,128 sold) so not surprising what is becoming a niche market is getting dropped.  Pure electric cars now sell third more than diesel, so they probably think would be competing against the Enyaq

The UKs car tax regime probably also counted against it as any list price just over £40k is penalised, rather discourages anyone spending a bit over the threshold, whereas if you can afford a £50+k car probably just going to accept the extra tax.

I just specced an SEL with TDI 4x4 DSG similar to L&K and the SEL come out at £49500, The L&K is on FWD and is a mere £44500.

I then specced an Audi A6 Avant quattro black edition and that came out at £54000, but you get fat 20" wheels, but no heated windscreen and no heated rear seats.

Skoda is really trying to go upmarket - pricewise.

Frankly, I'd rather have an L&K plus 10 large in my pocket than a Chavvy A6.
