  • Well, after a 7 month wait, I picked up my Sportline facelift today. All options present, including Canton, and the electric child locks with the family pack.

Never thought I would find myself waiting for a Skoda for 10 months. Not exactly a premium car 🤣

This is the issue the VW Group have.

Ideally they would like the perceived branding hierarchy to be

Audi->VW>Seat>Skoda

However, the reality is very different.  The last 3 brands cost virtually the same, depending on what deal you can get.

Quality is subjective, but imo Skoda is generally the best out of the last 3, the same for practicality.

Audi does indeed have better materials, but whether they are worth the massive like for like premium is up to the individual.

Likewise my June 2021 order still hasn't been accepted by the factory as far as I'm aware. Getting to the point where it might be quicker if I get a job at the factory in the Czech Republic. Get on the internal system and assign my car a build week, then quit 🤣

I'm with you - I might even stay for some spannering, would be fun to put the doors on my own car... At least then someone would be doing it!

Well honestly it is now a premium brand :D I like the Skoda designs more than audi line and the futuristic interiours some have are fugly 😕

(Without bias because I am buying one) The interiors are among the most bland in the industry and they are same to drive. They are scoring lower than a lot of rivals in most reviews. They are still a good car but I would never relate Skoda with a Premium label. I got my Sport line 4x4 cheap on a PCH deal. If I had more to spend I would have an Audi or BMW first any day.

My friend drives nothing but audi and bmw and gets all kinds of cars from his work and yess there are some nice touches and cloth here and there an "better material" but it is not like you are hugging all parts of the interiour and pay Loads of dollars more for it. And nowadays those design interiours from audi and those ugly air funnels in front i find very ugly.

If i would buy another brand car it would be bmw and certainly not an audi or mercedes. The only fact i dont get a bmw is because all of the hassles it has with maintenance, much more of a hassle than a vag car.

ps: Bmw does have some nice superiour automatics (in my opinion)

I disagree entirely. The interiors are simple and straightforward - but they are anything but bland (and I'm quite happy with physical buttons, tyvm). Of course, there is a lot of variation across models as well as variants, but I'm more than happy with the look of the interior, and it's a a lot less bland than a lot of cars out there. As for the driving, my 1.5 150PS Kodiaq wasn't overly exciting... but it wasn't as bad as some cars I've driven. My 2.0 245PS Kodiaq is whatever I want it to be - boring and practical or fun and exciting.

I'll admit that it's nowhere near my old 1 series for being a driving machine, but comparing an SUV with a small hatchback is, well, pointless - and having tested SUVs from Volvo, BMW and Audi, I'd save the money and take my Kodiaq any day of the week.

Even the VRS is uncompetitive for what should be a performance car. 245 ps for a big lump falls short for me

If you think any Skoda VRS is a 'performance car' then you need your expectations resetting. And no, I don't consider a Golf GTI to be a 'performance car' either. A VW 'R' or Audi 'S' gets you a bit closer, but a 'performance car' is a BMW 'M' (a proper one, not an M330d or whatever you see around) or an Audi 'RS', or various others of the same ilk.

A Skoda VRS is a mildly sporty car, which just happens to be decent value and quick enough to have a bit of fun in on your daily commute. Usually pretty damn practical as well, like most Skodas.

Week 8 of 2023, yes? 🤦‍♂️

As stated before I am getting what maybe is a cancellation order next week. Ordered last week. Sportline 7 seats English spec and yes for a stupid amount of money over English prices.vrt in Ireland is mental. I had a good few cars to pick from. Now don't shoot me but rather then waiting for 8 or 9 months for that extra you may never use would you not see if you can do what I did. Pick as close to the spec you ordered and have it sooner. Given I change cars every two years so not to worried about extras. Also given before brexit I got my cars from UK . I think thay are a  good car and the spec as standerd is good. Why torture yourself waiting

I certainly don't want to drive a milk float, however in reality how much performance can you enjoy whilst keeping a clean licence?  YMMV obviously.

Yeah thats why i dont understand wanting a lot of pk on a car that cant benefit it all. I have a motorcycle that leaves them behind 😛

If some option isn't available I'm sure people will give and take. The problem is that a car is only ever worth what someone will pay for it and this very moment in time, the stock car or the ex demo or nearly new or whatever is commanding eyewatering prices. If you're lucky enough to have that money then yes, go ahead, but given that here in the UK at least, the Kodiaq was a heavily discounted model, when the market begins to return to normal, you're opening yourself up to such heavy depreciation..  You can always take the risk out by leasing or whatever but it's the same story - you're having to pay more for the car.

I'm lucky enough to have bought my car with my spec with a great discount just before the market went crazy ( at a time when showrooms were empty  ) but if I were buying today? I wouldn't be buying a Kodaiq simply because of the risk of loosing so much money. To be fair, most cars are in the same position so I just wouldn't be buying. If I had a car on order that was cheaper to buy, I might as well wait.

As for those who're complaining about waiting times - report in Autocar today about the home Japanese market being told the Toyota Land Cruiser could see a FOUR year waiting list. To make matters even worse, Toyota were one of the few manufacturers not to rely on 'just in time' production - they learned their lesson some years ago when the Tsunami hit and Toyota went back to stockpiling parts.

FOUR year wating list !   :crying:  That's even longer than we'll have to wait to see a NHS dentist.

Tonight the news is that Toyota expect to have stop production at the 3 plants in North America & Canada for the rest of the week as with the highways / bridge blocked the just in time deliveries mean production is disrupted.

I agree the market is crazy. On flip side second hand market is also nuts. Iv seen year old cars for sale at the price of new ones. Trade in price also happy with. Make up the price increase on the car
