Will Skoda change their strap line from Simply Clever to Deliver Never?

I agree. I was choosing between Superb and Kodiaq, but as Kodiaq didn't have a sufficient engine it should have for a vehicle this size, I chose Superb.

Now I understand Superb is no performance auto, I just want a fully loaded car to have enough punch for overtaking or merging lanes.

Hi all, I’ve ordered a new Kodiaq too, a VRS in moon white, 129 days and counting- couldn’t resist the fantastic deal. Still no build date but hopefully soon. Anyway, I have a Kodiaq Sportline currently and previously had a Superb Estate L&K. I love both cars, but the Kodiaq just pips it for me in terms of getting older family members in and out. It can also get me to my favourite fishing spots without grounding out like the Superb did and a roof rack awning gives me better headroom too. I guess the point is that every car is a compromise and we all have good reasons for choosing the ones we do. I’ve gone with a VRS this time as, while it’s not a sports car, it’ll still be the fastest thing I’ve personally driven. I have nothing to compare it to so it’ll feel fast to me and I love the inside of it. Have gone with ventilated leather seats, winter and sleep packs and a towbar. Watching everyone’s waiting times with interest 😳

My old 150PS Kodiaq had enough punch for overtaking - even when fully loaded. My new 245PS Kodiaq has more than enough.

If you rely on excessive power to make up for poor driving skills and road sense, then that's a different problem entirely. As for merging lanes... yes, more power is always going to be the answer as you always have to get around those extra few cars and dive in at the last possible moment 🤦‍♂️.

Haha, funny you made those assumptions about my driving skills as they're not at all like you described.

I am currently driving 275PS i30N hatch and its a nice nimble car. I understand that anything bigger with less horse power will feel and be slower. I feel safer knowing I can effortlessly accelerate if I need to.

I just hate when small engines roar if you need some extra power at times, and if you drive around Europe you do need it. Driving at 140km/h or higher doesn't give much better fuel economy either, as those engines are operating near their limits.

To everyone it's own, I guess.

This sums up my personal position perfectly (and I wish I could have said in my original answer!)

For better or worse I have lot's of cars to compare it to, so would always be underwhelmed.

Those two statements are contradictory. If you don't see that, then never mind.

No, you really don't. My fully loaded 150PS Kodiaq didn't have any issues going all the way down to the south of France, including the ups and downs of the A75 through the Massif Central and over a couple of steep, twisty mountain passes in the Pyrenees. Wanting more power is one thing... needing it, however, is entirely different.

I like how you're trying to prove that 150PS for a 7 seater is enough. I guess you could say that an appartment of 50m2 is enough for a family of 4, and many would agree with you, but just as many would not.

I am not trying to prove that I am right, and you are wrong, I just stated my opinion why I chose Superb over Kodiaq. You on the other hand suppose if something suits you, it automatically should suit everyone else, which is not how the world is.

Thank you. I like how you're trying to prove that 150PS for a 7 seater isn't enough. Yet I've given (anecdotal) evidence of why it is enough, and yet you are happy just to claim that it isn't without providing a cohesive argument as to why.

I'm not supposing anything of the sort. If I was, I'd be the biggest hypocrite in the world, having bought a Kodiaq VRS. I'm simply asserting that a Kodiaq with 150PS is powerful enough to be both safe and practical, even when fully loaded. You seem to be arguing that even 245PS isn't enough for a Kodiaq to be those things - apologies if I'm misrepresenting you, but that's the impression I get from what you've said.

There is nothing wrong with wanting more power - again, I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't agree with that - but as I said in my previous post, wanting and needing are two entirely different things.

Sounds like someone criticising a 150bhp Kodiaq hasn't actually driven one...

150pk for one is different for the other. I guess the minium now is to be able to move your car fast enough when loaded. Years ago you saw lots of +-80pk cars but nowadays its mostly 105pk. So fluent driving is needed. The only thing i just mentioned about all the pk stuff is people overdoing the pk on a car (300pk for example) where they cannot use it at all fully to experience it fully. Unless you live a in country without restrictions. But hey if you got coins to spend its all goood but i would suggest getting a motorcycle for the speedy kicks , so much better :)

Some of you are trying to objectify a subjective matter. Define "enough". Is it enough to get car rolling? Because if so, even 100PS will be enough for a fully loaded Kodiaq, it will move.

245PS is adequate for a Kodiaq. If there weren't other options I would choose it, I would never choose 150PS however.

I have driven a 100PS Opel Astra, however, and it was awfully slow. I drove it for 5 years, it moved, yes, but it wasn't enough for me. I would find myself between semi-trucks, where you don't have enough power to safely overtake and get sandwitched between, with semis not keeping their distance from you or deciding to overtake with oncoming traffic, making 3rd lane, pushing you to a side of the road, to fit.

Racing drivers agree that having some spare horse power is safer on the road. Sure you can drive with less PS. But if you do have some extra power, you can compensate for idiots on the road.

It baffles me, how people come and tell others what they need. Where do you draw the line between "want" and "need"? Do you really need a car in a first place? I am sure you could move around with public transportation, sure it would not be so convenient at times, but it would get you, where you want. Hence, by your logic, there is nothing wrong in wanting to drive a car, it's just wanting and needing are two entirely different things.

Let's have a bit of context to this - where do you live? This is not typical behaviour from truck drivers in - dare I say it - most countries.

So you're not trying to tell everyone else that they need more than 150PS... more than 245PS... in their Kodiaq?

I'm pretty sure that's what I've been saying, yes.

Different people need different things, that much I think we can agree on. Some people may not actually need a car, that I agree with too. But this is about whether a certain amount of power is sufficient for a car to be practical and safe. 150PS is sufficient for a Kodiaq. You may want more power, so did I... but there is nothing wrong with a Kodiaq that only has 150PS.

I live in Lithuania, it's very typical here.

Of course not. Where did you get that? I simply stated my opinion, why I chose Superb over Kodiaq and elaborated why I think I needed it in further posts. There weren't any PS figures in my original post either. There weren't 245PS Kodiaq option when I made the deal. Only 188PS.

And I said, "to everyone it's own".

You, on the other hand, without knowing full context (as you now yourself said) come in with assumptions of my driving skills and tell me, what I need, by saying "no, you really don't". Sounds like being a hypocrite afterall, even though you said you are not.

Furthermore, you yourself choose to have a more powerful new vehicle instead of less powerful? Why? Why do you want more power if you don't need it, because I only want things I need. I am practical man, I don't buy BMW for 30k+ over the Skoda, because I don't need it. I think Skoda ticks the same boxes that are relevant to me, for less.

I think I made myself clear, but looks like you're either not able to comprehend text or just selectively reading, by omiting statements that doesn't fit your agenda, trying to twist this discussion back and back to prove me something, I had no intentions on arguing with in the first place (that 150 PS on a Kodiaq is enough for some people and not enough for others).

Honestly I don't see point in wasting more of my time discussing about something so obvious and trivial.

Have a nice day.

In other news, 9 months 8 days have passed since ordering and................................................ still awaiting a unconfirmed build date. Reading on here so many having build dates and ordering months and months after me is killing me
