I've got to be honest... they'd be useful for getting at the roof when cleaning the damn thing 😂.

They certainly help with cleaning! The stainless steel does mark easily with shoes which is why I have a no step policy on them with others who get in haha 😂

Don't step on the... step? 😳

You should get your stencil and black paint out:

My 1.5TSI SPORTLINE has been built and is awaiting a semiconductor at the factory. Should be released “very soon” according to the dealer 🤞

Fantastic news! Any optional extras?

Sounds like things are improving. My Kodiaq was built in August 2021 (ordered June 2021) and was shipped out to storage at Kralove airfield whilst awaiting chips to complete build.
I eventually took delivery in February 2022.

October to March isn’t too bad.

I really wish I’d added the family pack to my order. What a foolish thing not to do. Roller blinds would make such a difference. Ah well.

Hello!!! Not good news at all...this is what i get today...(long text...)

Thank you for additional information about your car order.

To our regret we have to inform you that the production and delivery of new cars has been delayed by up to several months, as car manufacturers across the globe have been affected by a shortage of semiconductor chips. The vast majority of manufacturers have had to reduce or, in some cases, stop their production lines, and a lot of that is due to a shortage of microchips. The reason behind is that every electronic device – including mobile phones, computers, games consoles and your car – use microchips in the circuitry. In car industry is the even worse, because every single new car uses MCUs – micro controller units – for the control of the various aspects of the vehicle, like the chassis, safety system, ABS, stability control systems, airbags, power windows and more. In cars you can find dozens of MCUs from many suppliers, if just one of those MCUs is in short supply, your car cannot be delivered.

There are a number of factors behind the current shortage of microchips. First up, the global pandemic and accompanying lockdown meant chipmakers had to slow down production massively. And, as everyone else has had to stay inside, sales of electric gizmos like tablets and phones have gone through the roof as we’ve all relied on them to keep us entertained over a very long year indoors. So, fewer chips are being produced and those that are have been used in faster-selling consumer electronics. As we’ve been using our cars less over the pandemic, chip makers have naturally given priority to other products. It doesn’t stop there though. A massive winter storm in Texas affected a bunch of electronics facilities– curtailing their ability to produce microchips. Then in Taiwan, a severe drought knocked their ability to produce microchips, as the semiconductor industry needs a lot of water in production. In addition to all of this, Tokyo’s factory – which produces one third of microcontroller chips used in cars – had a massive fire that contributed to the shortage we’re now facing.

As we mentioned above, consumer electronics like consoles and tablets are selling faster than cars in lockdown, so it makes sense from chip producer side to prioritize those in the current market. But beyond that: cars use a specific legacy chip, which is tough and long lasting, but uses an older design. As the chip makers won’t make as much of a profit from the car microchips, the car makers are near the back of the queue. Currently situation got even more critic with conflict between UA-RU.

We have our customers in focus and we keep the promise to deliver. However, under current circumstances, some delays on new cars orders are unavoidable. The length of these delays will vary, situation is changing every day, all manufactures are forces to slow down the production or even pause the production for the most critical period of time. We are working hard to implement the measures and we strongly believe, that these delays won’t last forever. We are even thinking to bring the chip building in-house so we can do it themselves. As chip building isn’t their area of expertise, this won’t happen overnight – but a start has been made. On top of that, Intel has also committed to huge investment in new chip factories that could help with shortages, and chip makers in Taiwan are increasing production to meet the shortfall. So, while we have a problem and have to wait in the short to medium term, there’s a fix on the horizon.

Under current circumstances in the vast majority of cases it is not possible to say when the vehicle will be manufactured and delivered. Once this information is available, your dealer will be the first to know this positive information and we are convinced that he will be happy to pass this information on to you.

With kind Regards,

Nothing new there!

Yeah these are just standard comms that have been going out for months now. Everyone gets one. Sorry we don’t know when your car will be built. People got the letter and picked up their new car the next day. It’s just generic stuff.

My dealer just updated me. He said Skoda have done a press release around the shortage of parts due to the invasion in Ukraine So he said to expect even longer delays than before (i ordered in June 21 before Ukraine). However, he went on to make me feel bad for even asking about a car while people are suffering. fair point, it breaks my heart watching the news. How many other people are going about life as normal and moaning about trivial things. So resigned to the lease the car not coming this year and time to shut the xxxx up Spivo

Skoda have said in their previous press releases that the cars supplied with wiring harnesses from the Ukraine are the Kamiq, Scala and Enyaq.

Whilst obviously it’s going to add more disruption on top of the semiconductor I’m not sure a dealer should be so flippant. Yes the war is awful. And a delay to a car delivery pales into insignificance in that respect. But I doubt Skoda would be so ‘understanding’ in reverse if our payments were months late due to ‘a war’ and we couldn’t tell them when we’d next pay them.

Not that you know the world situation isn’t a good reason for delay. It is. It’s just that Skoda should really be able to give some proper timeframes to people. Even if they are realistic and it’s an awful situation and they have to tell people it will be a year then at least they’d be communicating. But the real problem is not the delay but the fact they have no real systems in place to manage their customers. I remember a few years back my dad ordered a car, can’t remember which and he could watch it being built via online video etc. Now it’s just a shambolic mess of relying on your dealer to update and relying on Skoda UK to tell them the score.

That for me is the failing. As customers we should be able to log in and track our orders. That’s a basic. It’s 2022. You’ve been able to track orders online for 20 odd years. And that doesn’t have anything to do with the chip shortage or a war!

So you're telling me they have extra capacity to get on with making Kodiaqs? 😂

I mean I doubt it. Because chips. But who knows the full situation. The factory in Ukraine started to remake the harnesses too this week. But the problem is all the correspondence they send is completely generic. My wife has a seat arona new build order in and we were told by the dealer that the arona is built in Spain and not affected at all by Ukraine. But still we got the letter saying it was.

Communication and customer management needs to be better.

Why is the ŠKODA dealer still updating you? Did you not get the Kia Sportage GT after having previously bailed out of the Kodiaq in early November when you bought an in-stock Volvo XC60?

if my dealer started bleeting on about the situation in Ukraine and feeling sorry etc i'd tell him to **** off!

ref other rangers affected you'd think it would indeed mean semi chips assigned to those cars going to models that can be completed surely.

Both fell through for different reasons smart arse. There is nothing I want more than to bail out and even at the cost of spending more. It getting harder and harder to do so!

I'm about to really annoy all of you waiting for your cars..........

We took delivery of our new L&K TDi 200 with optional Travel Pack, Red Metallic and 20" wheels which was ordered in September '21 and delivered middle of January '22. However on delivery there was a problem as the interior was Black NOT Black/Beige that we had ordered. So we took the "wrong" new car while they sorted a replacement. This was ordered Mid January '22.

Just had an email from the dealer. The new "new" car (correct colour interior) has left the factory and is on it way. That's 11 weeks!

It was probably rushed through as it was a dealer/ factory error.

Just shows orders can get done quickly if required. The only positive information I've ever had from my June 2021 order, is it's in the 'order-bank'.

About 6 years ago, my dad waited about 16 weeks for a new Passat to be delivered... but it was the wrong spec. The replacement turned up in 4 weeks.

It does seem like there is a way in VAG's system to prioritise an order in certain situations.

Having never ordered a new Skoda before I’m curious as to what the wait time is in normal circumstances - pre chip shortage and war…if you factory ordered a kodiaq in say 2018 what sort of wait time would you expect?

I'm 19 weeks since order (11Nov) and updated yesterday it's now sitting in Germany waiting for the ferry. Fingers crossed for early April.
