Sdi only has 125nm of torque, not that much more than the 1.2l petrols. Probably explains why the parts are the same.

Service oil message would just be a coincidence, iirc it comes on after a certain amount of time or mileage and I believe there is some way to see the service interval on the gauges, reset them also.

Compare and contrast the RPM that 125NM comes in at, high revs on the petrol engine means the gearbox is splashing oil about enthusiastically when it's under the greatest load.

A manual gearbox specifically designed for a high-torque low RPM diesel engine would use a different type of oil and have a functionally higher oil level, this is not cost effective in most automotive applications and early gearbox failures on the diesel variants are often the result, in fact it's commonplace on many small city cars with diesel engines due to packaging constraints.

Most of the Fabia SDI's on here will have had at least one gearbox failure by now, secondhand gearboxes are getting very rare indeed as one recent poster remarked. Coincidence?

The oil message kharl would be about engine oil, atleast thats what it meant on my car (sdi) . I did not mean gearbox oil. I know these cars chew gearboxes and although I can't be sure, it would be safe to assume mine is on a second gearbox being so old and having the miles it does.

Same torque as the 1.4 16v petrols I believe.

There's a way to reset the service warning light that I tried to follow from the internet but in the end I just messed about with things until it worked. :D

When you first noticed the noise, was it more noticeable when the engine was cold? I have a rattle when accelerating although not a CV type clicking.

Hi!

I did it regardless the temperature of the engine.
