Standard radio changing

Featured Replies

The skoda fabia mk1 are there any face plates trim to convert to standard single din radio?

The main reason my radio the power button when bought the car snapped. I managed to get it out but the spindle gone. The second hand standard radio are not cheap either.

Thanks

You can just get a small cubby to go in one of the dins, with the single din radio on top. Mines done like that.

You got a link to where you bought yours from?

Thanks

Mine came with it so I don't know exactly where it was got.

I'm guessing you could get them in Halfords, or online on eBay, Amazon etc.

The standard radio is a single DIN size....with either a cubby or drawer under it taking up the slot to make it a double DIN.

However there is a trim space above top slot which is covered by the factory radio & this will now be exposed if you fit an aftermarket radio single or double DIN..

Part number 31 here:-

Part number is 6Y0-857-231 or 6Y0-851-231-B41

So in other words a single din radio should fit straight in by the sounds of it.

What's the best way to remove the standard radio?

Yes it will...might need an adaptor harness to convert the stereo to the DIN connector block..but these are easy to find...also disconnect the grey wire from the loom & tape as its the OBD11 diagnostic cable which only works with the OEM stereo..You might also need to swap over the live & switch 12V wires on the stereo side...

All easy..did it to my old Fabia years ago...

Heres a thread on the wiring pin outs....first post has all the details..I did this a few years back!

I just got some radio removing keys of ebay arrived in the post today £1.39p.

I will try removing the original stereo this week.

Those are the right keys, as I learned after getting the wrong ones stuck in it and having to hack apart my dash to get the OEM stereo out. :D

They can be brought from ebay about £10 I did this with mine.20211103_090538.thumb.jpg.7d21aab62a085b2b8e1bf93f4ab17f06.jpg

My faceplate was from Halfords, cannot quite remember how much it cost me however. I just kept the original DIN pocket area. Hoping to come across one of the little pop-out drawers soon.

I have fitted my after market stereo the wiring plugged straight in.

The only thing I had to do on the radio loom swap the red wire around with the yellow wire so it would save the radio settings. But if you left the wiring red and just yellow it would loose the settings.

I got 2 of these stereo years ago one also fitted in my peugeot. There high spec still are today 4x50w speakers, 1x30w sub, 3 pre outs for 3 amps and usb. I've run this system in the past with 4 speakers 50w rms and 1 sub 30w rms and it sounds good without a amp.

The only part I need it just the bit at the top now.

Solid choice on a Kenwood! I alternate between a Kenwood KDC-BT640 and a cheaper 2006 Alpine unit (which is in my car currently). Planning to fire the Kenwood into another car when the right car for my second one comes around. :)
