Dsg problem

My Skoda Superb Estate automatic is a 2016 model. Because we travel in our motorhome about 6 months a year (before COVID) the car has only done 16200 miles. I bought this car 2017 from Meadens, Brockenhurst with 4235 miles on the clock.  According to our mot records we did 3000 miles last year, and 1000 the previous year.  We’ve started getting a warning that the vehicle should be in (p) when leaving parked.  Obviously it has been put into park mode, because we wouldn’t have been able to remove the key. The dealership that we bought it from are now saying that it’s going to cost £730 + to repair because the gear selector etc is a complete package. I think this is extortionate. Can anyone direct me to a place where I can complain, please. A big thank you for any advice.

Welcome.

It is a well known issue and a member with experience of it should help, a mod will move your post to the Superb section as i flagged itup.

Sorry but no idea who you can complain to as Skoda / VW in the UK could not care less.

Car out of warranty and they are off Scot free.

Even when cars were in warranty the 'driver' was to blame according to them.

Thank you anyway.

Have another chat with your dealer (or another dealer) as they can replace just the switch (part no.5Q0713128A - as per my invoice). I had it replaced on my Golf a couple of weeks ago at our local VW dealer for £150, which I still thought was expensive but not as bad as the horror stories I read on other forums. I also asked the techie who serviced our Superb at our main dealer who said they do exactly the same.

I had exactly the same problem with my 2016 model and was quoted £730 to repair.

I decided not to go ahead as it seemed to have no effect on the car other than an annoying message.

With more use of the car the messages started coming less often and now, according to my daughter who now has the car, the messages have gone away completely.

Basically it is a microswitch that gets stuck and the less you use the car the more likely the message will appear.

Move the gear stick as much as possible and I think the message will go away or alternatively simply ignore it.

I got my car from Meadens in Brockenhurst and once I got it home and gave it my inspection it was far from up to standard, leaking shocks, very low tyres, damaged paint and windscreen.

sadly you are out of basically all warranty periods and they won’t cover it no matter who you speak to. It’s either second hand or a brand new part required

Some way to physically go, but can I suggest you call Colin Marshall at Wheelbase in Hersham, Surrey (link here). Our Superb 280 had the dash alight like a Christmas tree, biggest issue was ABS and ESC were off, which I explained in turn to the four closest Skoda dealers as I called them in turn last week - Allams Epsom, Lookers Guildford, Garlands Aldershot and Skoda Crawley. Not one showed the slightest empathy and none of them could even LOOK at the car for a one hour (chargeable) diagnosis slot for three weeks and further weeks wait for the appointment to have the work undertaken… unless I needed a courtesy car which would mean between an 6 to 10 week wait!
I called Wheelbase last Saturday and the very pleasant lady I spoke to said that’s bad news, but it was probably just a failed sensor and then said they could take the car in on Monday. I said I need a courtesy car and said unfortunately they wouldn’t have a courtesy car until…. Tuesday! The 280 went in and it was fixed by 5pm. It was the NSR wheel sensor. It was a very, very easy and pleasant experience. I won’t be returning to a main dealer again; Wheelbase will now be getting our custom. It’s worth a call as I’m sure they’ve had this issue on a number of VAG products.

Now guess why we call them "Skoda main stealers".

Well, given Wheelbase are not Skoda Main Dealers but an independent garage, this really doesn’t apply in their case.

Yes, I realised that. My point was about how much faster, cheaper and more accurately Wheelbase diagnosed and repaired your fault.

Ahhhhh… yeah, just ignore me Ken; migraine hangover and very long day… 🙄. Given the dozens of fault codes that were thrown up, I’m certain that any one of those dealers would’ve had the car for 5 days, found far more “issues” related to “the problem” and replaced associated parts to determine if they were right. The conversation with the service advisor would go..

”Errr, so why have you replaced all these parts?”

”They we’re all shownimg they had a fault, so we had to replace them”.
“So it wasn’t just one problem then?”
“No, they were all faulty.”

”So they all failed at the same time?”
“No, some failed earlier and some later.”
“And you didn’t think to speak to SUK on my behalf - the car has only covered 30,000 miles.”
“No. One unit failing causes another one to fail.”

Then at the bottom was the figure of £1,489.

I’ve been there on one occasion on our MKII at a Skoda dealer I’d used for a number of years which had been taken over for a third time, by a major group. Enough said…
