OEM Part Number

3V9827851B
3V9 827 851 B

3V9827852B
3V9 827 852 B

Part numbers from ebay listings for Superb 3 combi.

All seem to have 2 year warranty and are roughly £220 from Hong Kong and £260 from Germany. Not sure what duty would be charged in addition though?

Skoda are £351 per strut I think. I've tried a few dealers/suppliers on line and all are the same price.

£700+ for a couple of bits worth £100 at the most. If they were precision engineered items I could understand it, but it’s clear form the failure rate, they ain’t. God I’m sick of rip-off parts prices, especially when one knows what the mark-ups are on these.

Im sure if its coming from Germany there shouldn't any additional charges if they have included VAT already - I looked at Autodoc £250-260 per strut.  On Ali express a pair is c £220!

Obviously you mean except for circa £100 for VAT and 2.5% import duty. VAT and duty are both applicable to anything imported to the U.K. costing >£135.

There you go…

Still not decided what I’m going to do but have a few options now so that’s good. Pretty certain it’s the struts so not so keen on paying £120 for investigation to be told sorry not covered.

Think my opening gambit will be can you tell me categorically if the struts are covered by the warranty if they are happy days ( I’m sure they aren’t ) if not I’ll put the £120 towards one of the other options.

Personally when mines go completely I will try the ones from Ali express.

Ive placed 2 seperate orders for parts from Autodoc in the last 4-6 weeks which have come and Ive paid no customs.  Both order were over £135.

I was charged VAT.

Anything coming from Ali Express will have its value lowered to avoid customs however you will pay the VAT.

Lucky you and not necessarily; I’ve had a counter experience with AE. I’ve made a statement of fact Re the U.K. Customs and Excise law, nothing else.
Almost certainly, the struts advertised on AE and elsewhere will be made by the same local manufacturers used by VAG for their Chinese production lines and should be of the same “quality” or hopefully, somewhat better!

TBH even if you get hit with Customs and Excise and delivering charges i think they will still be cheaper!  maybe £350 - £400 max!

Very true, albeit should they open the package, they’ll establish the the U.K. cost of the item and then add the VAT based upon that usual landed number. C&E can basically do as they wish.

So what you are saying we are scr*wed no matter which we buy these boot struts! :D

Makes me kinda glad mine only has the traditional manual boot on it! No idea how much it was as an option when specced but I guess the original owner was either too tight or had good foresight….

Like the keyless entry it's another feature that 99% of owners never needed............

It was a standard fitment.

Totally disagree which is why one way or another I’m going to fix it.

Whichever floats your boat :D

@Nick_H standard figment? You mean the original owner of mine actually had it changed to a manual boot deliberately then? Must’ve known something we don’t! :o

as for keyless entry I think it’s brilliant, my only complaint is having to keep the keys in a faraday pouch at home in case anyone ever tried to pinch it using a remote hijack.

The newer keys that switch off after a time are ok but I’d rather just have a slide switch on the key like the silent button on my phone to disable the keyless part if required.

I think  superb owners are one of the lucky ones for relay attacks Click

I only looked it up after the event, but we were OK, the jag across the road, less so...

£387 with zero excess

which company?

I was with Autogroup which I've had for 6 months.  They offered me a similar offering.  They've been ok as they covered my battery and water pump housing - they decrease the water pump claim as they said it was only covering the housing!
