I was reading about the socket been in the boot of the car and it had me thinking.if you have a tyre pump it will not reach all of the tyres with a normal length of cable.so can I ask how  much cable is required to reach the front wheels.

I went out and bought a new tyre pump with an extra long lead.

Just done the same,I never had need for one but I thought with no spare wheel it may help.

Got a tyre pressure warning light the other day so used my electric tyre pump on this car for the first time. All well and good until I tried to reach the NSF tyre. What a daft design! Why not put a 12v socket in the front, too - just like my previous Octavia. My mountain bike tyre pump had to be employed. I may need to carry this in the boot - unless one of you blokes can tell me which tyre pump with an extra long lead you bought, and from where? BTW, the tyre pressure warning light was a false alarm :dull:

I just went onto the Internet and there were numerous pumps with long leads ie 3.5 metres and more.

 

I got myself a battery powered one, set the required pressure and then hit start, it stops when it reaches the required pressure, so much easier than messing about with a wired one.

Already bought one with a long lead.never had a need for one but with no spare wheel and the easy

way to check tyre pressure at home.

Having used the tyre pump a couple of hours ago, the one supplied with the car has an extra long lead and comfortably reaches all four tyres from the boot.

 

I didn't measure the cable so apologies if you wanted an exact cable length!

i did not know a tyre inflator was provided.always thought the pump was just to pump the foam into the tyre.thx for the info

This is my first car that didn't come with a full spare wheel so I don't know if its a standard thing or not but the cannister and pump provided are separate bits of kit.  The cannister attaches to the tyre and then the pump attaches to the cannister (is this different on other cars?), the pump itself is just a normal tyre pump that can be used directly on the tyre to top up the pressures.  Just good timing I used it earlier today when the pressure warning light came on!

 

Still think I'll buy a spare wheel before winter though...

Does the MK4 not have a 12v socket in the front then? Why on earth do they skimp on stuff like that? My MK3 has front and boot, and I wish it had a 12v in the back and a couple of usb sockets. Something I'd like to add.

Would one of these solve the issue?

 

Because I'm going to have a power supply issue with my new car as I'm going to need a connection to charge my phone in a holster as I use Waze or Google Maps rather than the built-in system and a laser camera detector, on the dashboard. A splitter will also be put into the socket to allow an electric tyre pump to be used.

Same here, I'll need 2x12V sockets once the car will arrive. I also gave some thought to the issue and I'm thinking about using the flowing solution:
- buy one splitter (2 or 3 slots) with cable on it from the factory (similar to the one in the picture below, but the original connector at the end of the cable will have to go...);

- buy one fuse adapter such as one in the picture, add a fuse according to whatever you plan to power up, and connect the fuse adapter directly to the fuse box of the car -> you'll also have the choice between permanent 12V or accessory 12V - as you wish;

- somehow (not sure how yet - maybe a very good quality double-tape) fix the splitter in position under the central vents of the dashboard; I noticed the space under there is quite generous, and since the phone charger is below, I can't imagine myself placing anything else down there besides the phone.

In your case the cable would go from the lower-back of the central vents, through the back of the glove compartment to the fuse-box. In my case it will go from the lower-back of the vents, close to the steering column to the fuse-box.
I also thought about using a long cable from the trunk as you suggest, but I'd hate such a long trajectory, hiding the cable under the plastics at the bottom of the doors, and finally: permanently block the socket in the trunk (not that I have any plans for it).

This really screwing me up, because I don't know what the output of the car's USB sockets are, are they QC 3.0 compatible? 

 

I think that I've worked out a cable routing for the extension lead from the boot, as well as installing a high capacity socket doubler in there so I can use it for the electric tyre pump. 

 

But all in all it's a p*$$ poor solution.
