temperature gauge/dpf light

Featured Replies

driving yesterday, temperature gauge went passed normal about 100 degrees and dpf emissions light came on, after about two minutes all was normal i checked coolant level that was fine and i had just done a two hundred mile round trip on the motorway so that was ok any suggestions?.

That usually the first sign (of two) that your water pump is on its way out. The impeller is gradually disintegrating and it needs replacing. Next you will get a major overheat issue and a breakdown.

Which engine? I'd normally say about 1.5 the cambelt interval on a petrol, but you've put "dpf" which is a diesel thing.

If you don't think the tensioner and pulleys are fairly new, belt kit and pulleys, plus water pump, and the bill'll still be at most £500 from an independent.

Diesel engines cost about £600 to get done if you want the two year Skoda warranty with the work done at a main dealer.  Independants tend to cost between £350 and £500.

You can confirm the costs here: https://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance-fixed-price

Thanks for the swift reply, I'll take it to my local garage for a proper diagnosis is this a hard job to do at home?  I don't mind getting my hands dirty if it is I've got a decision to make thanks again for your help.

Is it possible that the temp rose a bit because it was doing a regen?. The dpf light coming on at the same time could be a warning that it's getting full of ash. The pumps only done 15K so that should not be problem.

If you have access to a ramp, then it makes it easier as it is at the bottom of the engine bay to change the water pump.

I have them hydraulic ramps lifts the car nice and high as ords has said the pump has only done 15k can I use VCDS to tell me the state of the dpf filter if I can would you know what % level it should be.

Okay - with the DPF, you can try and tackle it two ways.  Take the car on a long, fast progessive run and see if that clears it out OR you can force a regen on the move OR you can regen statically.  Module 01 (engine), Basic Settings and 'Perform a regen when static'.

I personally recommend that you also put in some Cetain improver into the diesel which helps the burn and cleans out the DPF and EGR valve in the process.  I personally use https://www.hydra-int.com/diesel-power-blast.html a bottle for £10 will let you feel it working properly and keep your engine happy.
