Karoq Oil

Featured Replies

I was over enthusiastic in putting oil into my karoq and now it is saying "please remove excess oil".  How critical is this warning and how do I do it.  I am a complete novice

I would say it is really quite important. You could get a pump and remove oil via the dipstick tube.

You might well damage your car.

If you can not do it then go to a local garage that could pump it out or remove the drain plug and drop the oil, and refill.

*Maybe a local Mobile Mechanic could do it for you.*

What engine is it?,

not that that matters.

Are you checking the oil when at operating temp on the flat and then adding if needed by the dip stick?

Two ways forward - one is easy, one is harder.

Easy: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=oil+extractor&_sacat=34998&_sop=12

Oil Extractors - you can remove the excess oil via the dip-stick filler.

Harder:  Remove the under-tray protection and find the sump plug. Put tray under car, remove appropriate oil, seal up (possibly with new O-Ring in Sump Plug), re-attach under-tray protection.

You could do it the hard way, drop by drop using the dipstick.  Put it in, take it our & wipe down.  Repeat.  My folks put too much oil in there car when they changed “check the oil” to “top up the oil” in their minds.  It didn’t take them too long (an hour or so) and was the maintenance equiv of doing lines.  You’d hope they wouldn’t make that mistake again but I’m not convinced.

If you have too much oil it may resist the pistons going down by forming a hydraulic lock and potentially wreck the engine.

There has to be air between the pistons base and oil level in the sump to allow them to go up and down. As one goes down another goes up and the air moves between them. Oil can’t do this in the same quick way

My Roomster sump was overfilled by an independent garage. A pal had a Sealy extraction pump and he sucked up half a litre so the level is correct. I bought a Sealy extraction pump for £54 from a motor factors as I am doing oil changes myself.
