Hi everyone, just wondering what sort of MPG/miles to a full tank people are pulling in. Obv lots of different driving styles and commutes so figures will be a bit all over I’d imagine. I personally do the majority of my driving on the  motorway to Oxford and back Chorley each week (190 miles) 
 

I've got a 2014 vRS that I picked up about a month ago. I understand the tank is 45L, I had a Jag XF before this and the tank was bloody massive compared so I’m just getting a feel for what is the new normal. 
 

The last full tank returned about 480 miles and showed 50mpg almost bang on (if that can be trusted!) I expected to get more to be honest, which is why I’ve started this thread. 
 

it’s booked in for a service with Skoda next week and 4 wheel alignment the week after so I’m hoping a bit of care will improve things a bit.

You did not mention how much fuel you put in after achieving your 480 miles.

The simple way to determine how accurate your reported consumption is to calculate at refill but 45 litres is 9.9 gallons so your actual would be 48.5 mpg if 45 litres went in.

The tank size is officially 50L in the mk3 and in probably a bit larger than that (closer to 55L). Never a good idea to run out of fuel though

Lots of reports/complaints from diesels owners over the years that they are being prompted to refill by light/gauge/zero distance to empty and only getting circa 40 litres in.

If you are being prompted at 45 litres then I'd consider that as liveable.

 

The vRS 190 was never reported in this forum as being quite as economical as the 2.0L 150bhp version but from memory most reported about 50 to 55 mpg.

You don't mention the car's mileage which might give an idea of how it has been used over the last 7 years.

 

If I were you I'd get a cheap OBDC dongle and the DPF app on your phone to monitor ash content and regen frequency.

 

An Italian tune-up now and then when warmed up (in a quiet, unmonitored spot) might not do any harm to long term mileage either.

 

I have a 64 vrs tdi, I get approx 515miles to the tank on average based on mainly A road and motorway driving.

If I do more town driving the fill up warning comes in a lot earlier and i get to around 450 before filling, although I've never managed to put more than 46 ltrs in.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mk3 FL vRS TDI (not 4x4) here and getting 52-60mpg.

 

Mainly doing motorway miles with a bit of spirited driving on A and B roads given the chance.

 

A few use an app called Fuelly that’s handy for giving a more accurate insight in to your mpg and running costs based on the mileage you do vs fuel put in. It’ll log all this and add up your spending.

I'm generally getting around an average 45mpg with an average 450 miles between fills up. That's coming from the majority of town driving with the odd motorway commute. Best recent journey average mpg (54mpg) was a trip to the Lakes, but I think that may have had something to do with the M6 being mainly at 50 speeds.

 

I've got my mpg gauge calibrated as best I can through VCDS, so the readings are usually +/- 1mpg.

I have a 2016 DSG and my average over the last 1200 miles is 57mpg.

I get around 45-50mpg around town with a heavy foot , 60-70mpg on the motorway/a-roads.

 

Active DPF regens will hit your fuel economy a bit, mine tends to do it once per tank.

It is also worth making sure your tyre pressures are spot on.

 

 

My 65 plate sits between 43-48mpg, which is mostly city driving. Maybe once or twice weekly it hits a fast A road or M-way to open it up. I get 500-550 miles indicated when I fill up, usually get around 400 though before I fill up which is just before it hits around the 1/8th marker (red zone)

 

I'm rather happy with the figure tbh as I came out of a 1.4 Ibiza into my VRS and for the extra grunt, length a full tank lasts and pricing of diesel its great. 

 

I've had it since new and it's on 68k miles, I'd really like to take it to 100k but I'll see how patient I can be. 

 

I'm already getting my head turned by a new i30N but consciously holding out as the practicality and performance of my estate at the moment is great. (Plus the rendered 2022 type R looks rather nice 😂) .

Some great information here, thanks very much. Considering I’m doing almost all my driving on the motorway, I think I’m missing out on a few miles per tank. Maybe somewhere between 50 and 100miles. 
 

I’ll reassess after the service and wheel alignment as I’m getting some horrible wear on the rear inner wheels, maybe I’m dragging them a bit and that’s hitting the MPG.

I’ll have a look at how to calibrate the gauge using my OBD11 if possible, sounds like a worthwhile attempt at correcting any errors.

Thanks for this. Luckily I still had my receipt in the car from the last fill up (47Litres) so I’ve downloaded Fuelly and filled in the details. Will be interesting to know accurate results after a few tanks worth.

I’ve started to use BP and Shells Pay at the Pump feature on their apps (I’m a bit of a fuel snob).

 

Handily they E-Mail you the receipt.

I think anything near to 50mpg is fantastic. The most I've seen is 52mpg on a long journey (2014 Diesel VRS DSG now on 80k)
