Audio issues! Need advice on swapping my radio

Featured Replies

Hi, My Skoda Superb radio has stopped working. The CD player stopped working a couple of years ago and now the thing will not power on at all.

The details of the radio are in the photo below.

Could anyone tell me if the below radio listed on ebay would be a straight swap for my old one?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, that one will work, but it may not fit correctly depending on what actual Bolero you have fitted currently. On the Superb there were a couple of options and you might need some trim parts to suit the new one. You'll also need the security code for the new unit, and you'll need a GPS antenna to make the sat nav function. Then there'll be some coding to do with VCDS to make it all function correctly.

So, straight swap no, but it can be made to fit & work.

Also, it's a little overpriced maybe, for the same money I could fit you a Columbus system and all coded to work correctly. The only issue would be the trim parts which I can't see from here... 😅

Where are you based?

I would be interested in having you fit one if a trim could be found.

I'm in North Yorks, which is unfortunately a fair drive from Merseyside.

Trim will depend on what you currently have, post a pic of the unit fitted in your car please.

Would I need any new leads ?

Your existing Quadlock connector will fit either a Columbus or Amundsen and everything will fit. You'll need a GPS antenna for sat nav to work though.

I am not technically minded at all!

Would I be able to buy one of them on Ebay?

I have taken the existing radio out and put it back without issue.

That however is my only experience of car radios.

If I bought all the items needed would it be an easy job that I could do myself?

Unless you have VCDS (or some diagnostics program & hardware) you won't be able to make it work correctly. I'm not in a position to say you can do this yourself, but generally if you have to ask the question then the answer is probably no.

I thought that would be the answer.

It's a trek to bring the car to yourself for it to be done.
