Octavia Estate Boot Floor Differences?

Featured Replies

I've recently returned to the Skoda fold and have just bought a 2018 Octavia Estate (I previously had a Fabia Vrs but I've been away from Skoda for a few years).

I'm looking at options for dog transport solutions (guards, crates etc) - some of these state that the variable floor needs to be in the lowest or highest position.  My car doesn't have the variable boot floor so how does the height of the fixed floor compare to the variable floor in each postion?  Is the lowest position of the variable floor the same as the fixed floor?  All help appreciated!

Not a direct answer, but hopefully a bit helpful nevertheless.

I've got a standard floor estate and can fit a bog standard metal crate from Pets at Home in with no issues, takes up roughly half the width of the boot so still have space for other items. This is the one https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/pets-at-home-single-door-dog-crate-medium-black-7127086p--1

It touches the metal underside of the parcel shelf and I have to lift it up and rest it onto the plastic lip to open it but it's done the business for 5years with for our dog (Cavachon).

Might be an issue if you've got a proper sized dog 😂🐶

Variofloor is a misnomer, its a raised floor that can be removed, its not variable.

Thanks - we do have a crate (but it doesn't fit in the Octavia), removing the luggage cover isn't an issue, I'm not fussed if we have to take that out.  Our dog is a Labrador, I'm not sure how comfortable she'd be in the crate listed but I've seen some car specific crates that might be suitable.  I'm trying to work out a compromise between making sure there's enough space for the dog and retaining some luggage space in the boot.

I thought the variable floor was on runners and could be slotted into one of two positions, maybe I've not understood it properly.  So from your description it sounds like the fixed floor in my car would be the same height as the 'variable' floor removed/lower position?

Perhaps it is different on the MK3, I have never seen one, MK1 & MK2 Variofloors don't do what they say on the tin!

They probably justified the Variofloor name by the fact that the rear sections could be folded forward on top of the fixed one leaving the rear section of boot at full depth.

The variable  floor cannot be removed at all. Its not a slot in floor. It can be fully across the boot level with the boot lip, or put half back at that height.

Or it can be lowered right down out of the way  creating a full depth  and length boot space. It's very neat.

There is a hardboard floor in place below it that covers spare wheel space or the storage cubby if no spare wheel.

I expect there would only be the difference in height of the top floor thickness when it's in the low level position when compared to car without it.

Excuse the work gear, floor at half over below and fully over to boot level,

@J.R. it's quite versatile to be honest.

Yes versatile, certainly slick looking, perhaps not as versatile as the earlier versions that had 3 sections, having seen the evolution from the MK1 to the MK2 and now seeing photos of the MK3 I would bet my house that both of those sections can be removed and without the need for tools.

I have not seen the earlier  iterations but will add It has three sections that are hinged together. You would certainly need tools as it's all joined to a pivoting mechanism at the rear that is all part of the supports runners below.

From fully lowered down (flush to spare wheel floor covering)  pulling it forward and up, it slides up over two sprung loaded supports that pop back out and  then the rear third automatically locks in with a catches either side. You can then flip the front two sections back over the most rear section as I have in the first photo allowing space still below but not having to reach far down and to the back for frequently used kit.

When I'm away with the family I like that I can level the floor to load stuff in and out  but still store stuff underneath out of the way like shoes coats that aren't needed till later, if at all.

Simply clever...

Now I look really carefully at the photo I can just see the line between the two rear sections that I thought were one.

The earlier versions were very DIYish by comparison which means they can be adapted easily, I repurposed MK1 ones for my MK2 Octavia and Yeti, it was in doing that and then subsequently measuring other vehicles I found how standardised the dimensions of the luggage compartments are on all the vehicles.

I could not live without the boot floor storage compartment & all the stuff that has gradually found its way into there I now would not want to live without, granted with good luck most is never needed but all have been priceless at one time or another.

Going from MK2 Octavia to Yeti I had to get rid of 1/3 of the stuff I had been carrying around which was a very difficult task.

I've got the vario floor in mine, and I use it to keep emergency stuff in the car without getting in the way of other things I'd need to throw in the boot.

I've comfortably got an umbrella, first aid kit, compressor, tow rope, a big waterproof coat and matching trousers, a few travel johns and a few non perishable food items (the last two come in handy once when I got stuck on the not so smart section of the M6)

All of the bits are held in place with the boot cargo nets. If I didn't have the vario floor, I probably would just have a curver box of some descript.

The variable floor can be removed, I did so to fit my dog crate as otherwise I could not pull the cover shut.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

Another request - please can someone with a variable floor measure the height from the floor in the lower position up to the roof lining, I'd like to see what the difference is (if anything).
