Any updates on induction kits? I'm looking for a bit of noise but also to increase the gains a bit too. I will be also looking to change the turbo at some stage and install an aftermarket blowoff valve. All of this will happen with a remap of course but I'd like to do as much as I can myself. Ie induction kit and blowoff installation etc. I'm looking at a set of Michelin pilots too and winding about coilovers though I do use my estate for a fair bit of heavy lifting so not sure about these yet.

The stock cold air intake is already more than big enough so you won't gain power replacing it. Save the money for something useful.

Cheers, what is a useful mod to add a bit of boost. I find there's a lot of low end to midend lag, I'd like to have the turbo kick in a bit earlier. Can I do this with a map or am I gonna need a bigger turbo first?

It is worth going to the Fabia Project section and looking at others projects with 1.2 TSI's, there are ones.

Vrs intake pipe should work to get more cold air in. You can deflap the airbox too. 

Stock airbox works very well, with a bit of fettling it works even better. Some airfilter have a cotton sock over them, if you were after a bit of extra noise I'd remove it, and remove the drain on the bottom of the airbox.

K&N do an airbox for fabias but it is literally just a deflapped version of the standard box.

Basically repeating whats already been said but heyho.

Thanks for this, it's awesome. I work on motorbikes all the time but I've never worked on cars. This is a good starting point. I'll look into deflaping it

I don't think you'll like what some of what I put then.  😄

 

I'm sure you would agree that the first part of tuning is full and regular servicing, maintenance and repairs for the whole car - fiddling with things comes after. Once that is fully sorted you might move on to better lubricants for additional protection margins for the extra push at and/or passed the usual car's parameters.

 

You always sort your brakes first along with the suspension (tyres come into both of those for safety as well as performance), get the geometry checked and sorted and adjusted with any changes you make each time to suspension, wheels/tyres.  Always last is anything to do with the engine check that no changes are required to clutch and transmission from engine changes if you're going far with the engine.  The engine should never be beyond anything else on the car, you want all in balance.

 

Many "improvements" can turn out to be not necessarily so in real world (legal) driving on public roads particularly if they take the overall balance out of the car.   Modern cars are already generally oversized wit wheels and tyres and over lowed and over-stiff suspension can often on some road make things worse rather than better. 

 

Here's the bit you would like, the best tuning you can do is driver training, the benefits can also transferred at no extra cost to future cars and sometimes negate the need for more extreme tuning on the car.

 

Gone are the days when it was just go-faster stripes and later an 'i' badge on the boot and if you wanted more noise you stripped out all the sound insulation, carpets and trim from the car to be a rally (or Rallye).  🤣
