Ccza engine rocker cover gasket??

Featured Replies

Hi all

i have found out my leaking rocker cover has a leak although I understand I cannot buy a new gasket for it,just a complete new cover.? Sounds expensive ……

Is it possible to remove the cover and repair with high temp silicone instead?Something like Victor Reina gasket sealant.

Thanks

Are you talking about the cam cover (where the coils are)? If so its also the caps for the camshafts and has no gasket, only sealant. Not a straight forward job to sort by all accounts! If its the black plastic upper timimng case you're talking about then the gasket is avaiable seperately part number 06h103483c.

Oh jeez I’m not sure. The mechanic told me I had a rocker cover oil leak at the back, when he was changing out my front wishbones the other day.

Id better investigate it myself over the weekend and get it up on my ramps.

Thank you very much. Also the part number you have provided has been really helpful too.I’m hoping it’s just that part as you say it sounds easier to rectify.

Thanks again

Try retorquing the bolts first.

Wow! Brilliant idea!

I will do that and monitor it. Could save a ball ache!

It is probably the rocker cover (in old speak) cam cover, cam bridge or what ever in new speak.

I doubt retorqueing bolts will do anything now, but should be no harm in trying.

Unless it is really bad or causing vacuum leak issues I would leave it. There is no gasket just VW high temp / oil resistant but leaks anyway expensive £££ sealant used.  And yes, as @Rileysport says, it is a big job. Not like an OHC cam cover on my old 73 Datsun 240z where you could take 10 or 12 bolts out mount new gasket and be done in 20 minutes.  It is not like that, the cam bridge cover supports the cam bearing towers and runs deep down into the spark plug wells. It is quite a big dismantle and re-assembly job.

I’ll have a day off tomorrow so will get the front up on ramps and use a mirror and torch and have a good look.

Thank you for your help guys. From what you say,I think I won’t be dismantling!

I have ordered an oil return to turbo gasket that is also weeping. This looks really easy to swap out-2x6mm hex bolts.

I understand this is a common point of weakness in these engines(Ccza) or the EA888 engine VAG group.

Thanks again for putting my mind at ease.
