What have you done to your Karoq today?

Featured Replies

I thought I'd borrow the title of this thread from the Superb forum which seems to work quite well.

Feel free to add anything you have done to your Karoq underneath this post.

To kick off the thread, yesterday I fitted OEM door sill protectors & mud flaps to my wife's 19 plate Karoq, which we acquired last week. All parts purchased from Skoda Parts Ireland.  https://www.skodapartsireland.ie/  17.5 Euros delivery to UK.

The mud flaps were good value at 17.40 Euros per pair (incl vat).

The cill protectors were a bit pricey at 104.00 Euros (incl vat) but I wanted OEM quality & not some cheap flimsy wafer thin transfers from a dubious supplier. I've been down that route before with a boot sill protector for my Superb which I had to replace with an OEM one after 4 months. Buy cheap - pay twice!

All good & I managed to fit the mud flaps without removing any wheels by using a right angled drill adaptor with appropriate torx bits & a flexi shaft drill bit drive for drilling the extra holes.

I also fitted a pair of front Bosch Aero wipers (£19 on Amazon) to cure the noisy OEM ones. I may replace the rear wiper or just live with it for a while.

So far (1 week in) we are loving the Karoq - apart from the slow / DSG hesitation take up from a standing start. I might look at a DSG / engine remap next year when the warranty runs out. I did this (engine remap) on my Superb 280 & it transformed what was already a quick car into a bit of a hooligan & sharpened up the throttle response. I'm not looking for that level of performance out of the Karoq but a bit more urgency via the DSG & 4x4 from standstill would be appreciated. I suspect the software fix for the jerky engine issue associated with the 1.5 engines is responsible. Once on the move it runs fine although when I drive it I do miss the low down torque & instant response that my Superb has. I do wonder whether we should have stretched the budget a bit more & found a 2.0TSI model instead of the 1.5. Hey ho, can't change that now & TBH the 1.5 is more than adequate for what my wife needs.

Today I installed a new K&N air filter & removed the Snow Guard from underneath the filter to improve the airflow into the engine (1.5tsi 4 x 4). K&N reckon there should be a 5-6bhp increase in power & more torque but without putting it on a rolling road it's difficult to say if the performance has improved or not. No perceived improvement in the take up from a standing start but maybe a bit more responsive above 2,000 rpm.  A stage 1 remap is probably the only solution to the standing start take up issue but that will have to wait until the warranty runs out next year.

I'm looking to perhaps spruce up the rear end off the car (Edition model) which looks a bit plain with the black plastic bumper. Perhaps a rear spoiler or fake exhaust trims. Nothing too lairy. Just to break up the mass of dark plastic. Ongoing project.

@Colin170CRGet a project thread started!😁

Not done anything today but yesterday I put the rear seats (varioflex) back into the car after using it in van mode to pick a bunch of flat pack furniture.

"What have you done to your Karoq today?" - I've spilled some coca cola (400ml) in the trunk and under the rear seats! :D

Long story short, I've removed the rear seats and the carpet under them and cleaned off a lot of it, but I plan to get an extractor vacuum for Christmas and clean the carpet deeper. The seats and upholstery were not affected and most of the liquid was contained in the pockets under the carpet under the rear seats. It could have been worse 😅

How easy was it to remove the carpet(s)?

Thinking of some extra sound proofing.

Ha ha. Not sure if I would have enough content to make a it a worthwhile read. Unlike a guy in OZ (JJ RS) over in the Superb forum https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/488943-gandalfs-evolution/ who has a list of mods on his car as long as both of your arms.

Not sure what your budget is for a carpet cleaner or whether this is even available in Sweden, but I can recommend this Rug Doctor. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rug-Doctor-Portable-Cleaner-Litre/dp/B00T31O22Y/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=rug+doctor&qid=1633949707&sr=8-5 Portable & great for cleaning carpets, upholstery, incontinent pet wee etc around the house & car.

I have the varioflex seats so removing the seats was easy, then below the seats you have 5 plastic rivets that you can remove by hand (3 of them are screws, the other 2 you just pull out) and then you can pull out the carpeted plastic plate. Then you get the exposed metal and some wiring for the seats sensors. There are two pockets that have collected almost all of the liquid.

It looked quite a lot harder to pull out the footwell carpet and I think there was very little to none spilled liquid there, so I am not sure how do you remove the carpet in there.

I have not decided on a specific make or model, but Bissell seems reasonably priced and with good reviews:

Rug Doctor is not sold directly in the Swedish Amazon from what I can see.

I've driven it😀

I got some petrol. Doesn't sound exciting, but still not that easy around East London/Essex borders. Only a few pumps in one out of the 2 places I tried had any petrol, though both had lots of diesel.  Still I can now do 500+miles of driving (i.e. long distance more econmical style) before I need worry again.

If you'd asked a few weeks ago I could have described the weighting down of the rear parcel shelf I've been doing to reduce road noise - it's working well.  Anyway I posted on this recently - no photos as it looks a mess at present, being just at the end of the the experimental stage & awaiting a more cosmetic fix.  Won't work on Varioflex cars unless a removeable rigid shelf can be fitted somehow.

Petrol is becoming more available now in Beds / Bucks. No real issues for regular 95RON for the Karoq. However, most places do not yet have any 99RON Super Unleaded which I need for optimum performance in my Superb. Currently it has a tank full of 95 which it can accept but this reduces the overall BHP it produces. Probably down by 10-20BHP.

Winter wheels fitted today.  It’s going to be another proper winter, I can feel in in my bones. 👍

After 2 years and 8 months I’ve waved goodbye to ours - sold it for £850 more than we paid…………didn’t even have any service costs as it came with the 2 ‘free’ services included.

Sold mine too. Made £7675 had it 11 months. Ready for a new one now

Was the vehicle on 100% finance, no deposit, no part exchange?

Gave mine a wash along with the two Fabias. It is a good looking car when its clean I have to say.

The Tyre Pressure Alarm discovered a slow puncture in the left front tyre. An inspection found a nail or thorn in the sidewall. This is why I always have a spare wheel in my cars! Off to our local tyre repair workshop for a major repair @ £30.

I'm surprised that they will mend a puncture in the sidewall.

Same as I do most days driven it again😀

Yeh... they've done them before for me. A puncture in the tread is just plugged for about £10 or so, but if it's in the sidewall or edge of the tread and hasn't damaged the interior at all they vulcanise the repair for £30.

I've used them for years, and the repairs have always lasted for the rest of the tyre's life. I was wondering whether it was worth while replacing the tyre with another Bridgestone Dueler, or replacing the lot with all-season tyres, but am glad I can put that off until later :)

What does that repair involve then do you know?

I have the tyre replacement dilemma at the moment too. My Duelers have worn off the outer edges although there's still a good bit of legal tread so they would do a few miles yet and I have a set of 17" wheels with all season tyres on to use. But I could sell them and replace the Duelers for all seasons. Ah well, I'll keep thinking...

I understand that instead of simply pulling a plug through the puncture, a vulcanised repair applies a reinforced patch to the inside of the tyre and the vulcanisation process effectively 'welds' the old and new rubber together. My repairer has a massive oven which they use overnight to heat the tyres they are repairing.

It is said to be a safe and durable way of fixing a puncture repair, and There is no other permanent way of repairing an industrial or commercial tyre. Tyre vulcanising repair can be implemented on any tyre including side walls, shoulder and tyre tread surface.

Tyres are fully examined for extent of damage to decide if safe repair is possible.

My slow puncture was on the 'corner' of the tyre just down from the edge of the tread, and to my mind seemed to have been a blackthorn spike penetrating the tyre as it seemed to have a fibrous end on the outside.

I picked the repaired tyre up this afternoon, and the wheel was balanced and refitted to my car for £30.

As far as I'm aware you can't get anything like those in the UK, though I'd be c*ck-a-hoop if someone knows better.

Does your local company have a website, by any chance? Might they be persuaded to ship abroad?
