Help buying discs and pads for MK3 estate

Featured Replies

I would like to buy a set of front & back brake discs and pads. Then I was planning on taking it to local garage and have them fit.

I found these parts for my registration and it's coming in at £175. Do they look like there right parts?

What diameter front and rear brake discs does your Octavia MK3 have?

As you can see from the information below, there are four different front brake disc diameters and two different rear brake disc diameters.

Once you know this information, you can find out the OEM part numbers for the brake pads and brake discs from the below link to the Skoda parts catalogue.

This is the best way to find suitable aftermarket parts.

Knowing your car's build codes makes it easy to find what front and rear brakes are fitted. For example, build code 1ZE would mean that you have 288mm diameter front brake discs, and build code 1KD would mean that you have 253mm diameter rear brake discs.

Front Brakes

1ZF 276mm TRW

1ZE 288mm TRW

1ZA 312mm TRW

1ZB 312mm TRW (Same as 1ZA, except calipers are red)

1LG 340mm TRW

Rear Brakes

1KD 253mm TRW

1KS 272mm TRW

1KT 272mm TRW (Same as 1KS, except calipers are red)

The EuroCarParts that you have selected can't be correct, as you have selected 276mm front brake pads and 288mm front brake discs. EuroCarParts doesn't know what build codes you have (ie. what brakes you have), even though you have entered your registration number.

Looking at my build codes I see 1KT but not any of the other codes, does anyone know what that means in terms of break disc sizes?

You will get them a lot cheaper on Autodoc.

The front brake discs might be 340mm for pre-facelift models, and 312mm for facelift models on the Octavia MK3 2.0TDI VRS. However, you can check if you have the full build codes for your car's VIN. There might be about 180 build codes, so many more than what is shown on the white label/sticker in the spare wheel well area.

Why not let the garage source the parts themselves, they can guarantee they will fit then and offer a warranty.

If you supply the wrong ones and they dont fit, you can bet they will still charge you for the time as its your fault their wrong, not theirs?

Just out of curiosity, how do you find the full build codes for your car, if the label in the manual /spare wheel well doesn't list them?

Skoda parts departments have them on their computer system. They just need your VIN to access all the build codes for your vehicle.

Some independent garages that work on VW group cars also have a computer system that allows them to access this information. If they are repairing someone's VW group car (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, etc.) they need to be able to find the correct replacement parts, and hence they will often have a computer system that allows them access to the car's build codes.

You can also get the build codes using erwin.skoda-auto.cz but it costs 7 Euros for 1 hour's access, which should be enough time to download all the build codes.

When I bought my Octavia I got a spec sheet from this eBay seller for 3 euros; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224631127243. Arrived in a couple of hours I recall.

Thanks for that. Took the plunge and paid for the access to Erwin. Got a full list of the build codes and there is some interesting info on there.

I did the 1hr access to Erwin and downloaded everything I could, far too much info and prob won't use it, lol.

You might be able to use it to help others on here.

I'm sure people would appreciate it.

Hi, Carleton put some build codes up on his post which helped with the rear brakes, mine was 1KS 272mm. But on my build sticker I have no Z letters, which includes the extras in the boot, except 1Z1Z, apart from physically measuring,  how do you find correct size of disc. Tried the coat hanger method (thanks to Roddersuk for that) but due to recent surgery couldn't do it.

Not all of the build codes are shown on the white label/sticker in the spare wheel well area under the carpet.

You can get the build codes from "erwin skoda" but they do charge 7 Euros for 1 hour's access which should be enough time to download the build codes. Google "skoda erwin" to find their website.

You can also get the build codes from an Italian ebay seller for about 3 Euros. Search "skoda vin decoder" on ebay to find the listing.

Thank you Carlston, spelt it right this time. 👍

So did the Italian person on ebay €3, return info within the hour.  So now I know what I'm working with.

Thanks all.
