Ride in a Boxster. Impressions

Featured Replies

A mate has just taken me for a brisk ride in his new Boxster 2.7.

First impressions were a fantastic noise and a very solid feeling to the interior. The view out of the windscreen and down the nose is the best I've seen.

The ride was smooth and it felt very taut, but supple, at least from the passenger seat. The steering appeared very direct and the nose darted around corners.

In a straight-line it didn't 'feel' (or look, according to the speedo, on familiar ground) quicker than my car, although it's obviously a very different sort of power delivery -and a different driver.

With the roof down (it didn't take long) there wasn't much buffeting. It's a very high quality car. For 35K it should be....

I liked it. A lot

A colleague let me have a thrash in his, I was very impressed, its not the hair dressers car that it looks. Taut, responsive and a lot of fun.....I hit the limiter in fourth by accident because I was so beguiled by the gorgeous noise it made....Ooopps! :D

That would be because they put the engine in the right place. This mid engined lark is addictive:D

I doubt I'd fit much in the way of bikes inside it though....

What I liked about it was depsite fact that it was new and far superior, it still had a proper old Porsche 356, 911 or 916 (& VW Beetle?) 'feel' about it.

£35k though would see a nice 350Z parked on the drive with change

Not been on forums much myself lately for the same reason. Been out every chance I get. How are you getting to grips with the handling? Tried it much in the wet yet? Mine has a couple of pretty worn but still legal rear tyres. I am ordering a set of the Yoko Advan Neova LTS for it next week, funds permitting.

If its that good to drive, why bother with the bikes, just keep driving:D Porche do make excellent cars. There is much talk bandied about that those who buy the Boxter could not afford the 9XX hence the choice, but I know two people who bought them because they are better to drive, (one went from 996 to Boxter) even though they could afford the 9XX. I reckon the Cayman will catch on well. Love the look of them.

Yeah, they do look good and again, sound very nice. Will also watch with interest the Z4 Coupe, especially if the do a CS/CSL version. Has the potential to be a great car, especially as Porsche allegedly limited the Cayman because it would steal too many 911 sales if it was any quicker :rubchin:

Chris[/quote']I'll have a thread up later with my impression's of her ;)

Let's just say I couldn't be happier with the choice I made.... :D

Ha.

If you liked the Boxster, you should try and get yourself a Cayman S to drive.

Funnily enough, a guy who works in the office next next to us has one and I was looking at it yesterday (we've actually got an interesting car park I suppose). It's certainly a nice looking car and I suspect that, if I was in the market for a thirsty 'sportscar', my money could go to the Nissan Dealer....

There are things that mountain bikes do that cars don't! -and they give lots of opportunities to drive on mountain roads

Is he called Jamie?

Not when I last checked:)

Not last I checked:)

OK! Somebody at my office just got one.

Mountain Bikes really should get my fat **** back into that i used to love it but stopped once i could spend all my cash on cars

You're looking at the wrong cars then ;) Bowler Wildcat anyone?

:orb_lol: :orb_clap:

Nice one. I'm very very happy I've seen that

Excellent video - that Skyline sure is quick and tidy through the corners!!

Chris

Seen it before, but that Skyline is a menance, it should be illegal

And that's in 'limited' standard form....

Having seen that, I'm wondering how far behind the Boxster my car would be....

I'll have to ask for a ride in the 350Z one lunchtime. It looks as if it will p*ss on the Boxster

Make sure you have a window open to hear the exhaust ;)

good choice of car, Mr Goochie.

-and presumably it's quicker than a warmed-up 'Czech VW' family hatch on the straight, unlike some other 'sports' cars ;)
