engine misfire

Featured Replies

Good evening all

I'm new here so hello to you all

I recently had issues with my octavia vrs firstly the alternator blew popping the copper bar in the fuse box.

thats all sorted car ran perfectly so I took it for a drive after fitting new alternator, tensioner, belt and replacement battary.

I filled the car up with fuel pulled off and ever since the car has developed a nasty misfire.

I removed the ignition coils and noticed the plug on cylinder 3 was absolutely caked up with oil and completely black.

so I've replaced all plugs and replaced the coil problem is still there.

I've also noticed that the fuel isn't circulating and there's also a nasty smell of fuel in the engine bay.ive checked every sensor hose and all wiring in the engine bay is there something I've missed?

I'm absolutely scratching my head here so any input or advice would be much appreciated many thanks matt

What codes is it pulling? Injector?

I have obd reader and apparently there are no fault codes the last time there were several.

I have vcds lite as I don't have access to the full version sadly but the version I do have I wouldn't even connect to the ecu so I have no idea what's going on.

I'm currently updating laptop and checking vcds is updated to the latest version.

Matt I have vcds and I’m only in derby if you want me to plug it in I had a very similar issue to you I had a misfire and it came up with lean bank 1 etc so I replaced the coils and sparks and still had the issue replaced the maf still same issue and it ended up being my lambda sensor and now I feel I have a brand new car !!

I had my vrs plugged in at the weekend and apparently it has a misfire on cylinders 3 and 4 so we swapped the ignition coils to 1 and 2 and the fault completely disappeared off the computer but the misfire is still present anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be?

If you can smell petrol in the engine compartment there must be a leak somewhere. I'd start by locating and rectifying it first.

all fuel lines and pipes are secure and tight have been checked by myself and been up on ramps in a garage to so thats been checked twice

There's no smoke without fire as the saying goes.

ha ha goof point but what do I check next any ideas

Follow your nose.

I’m still sticking by lambda sensor myself that’s what gave me massive issues on my misfire
