Octavia MY22 audio upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I ordered an Octavia the other day, Style level, Europe. Due to semiconductor shortage I was told they may not build it with Canton so very likely to come with regular audio. Indeed, I`ve seen a Canton teardown on a Superb and its mass-produced no-name China speakers in it tweaked by DSP and a small amp. The speakers are not even made by some of the larger hi-fi/hi-end OEMs such as Sinar Baja or JBL`s Mexico OEM. I have not measured them back then as I`ve always been around Mercs but here am I today (btw, the Octavia appears to be a massive value!).

I may very likely have to upgrade it myself, so a few questions:

1. Is there a digital output on the main headunit? I can open it and take it out before its DAC section but that would deem all controls inoperable and will void warranty...

2. What are the 5" units in the front doors in terms of depth and are they the same as for the Golf MK8?

3. Did anyone try to fit a small class D such as the Match 5 DSP in the glove box compartment (through the Match conversion harness) and how did it go?

I`ve been dealing with hi-end audio for over 15Y, had a company that produced loudspeakers and have done quite a few cars. Not seen the Octavia and read somewhere on here its not very well suited for upgrades, but audio is a must for me.

Initially considered a 9/10 channel combined DSP/amp (don`t want to have separate units and cabling sticking around despite the drawbacks) and doing a 3-way upfront with a Peerless GBS 135, Aurasound NS2 and the venerable Seas 27TFFNC in the a-pillars (I saw stock tweets are there), a coaxial of whatever quality at the back and a compact 8" sub, probably a Monacor SPH-200TC which works very well in a small sealed. But cabling and etc is something I do not have the time/desire to replace so may go with high-power inputs from the head and just run a more standard setup.

Many thanks and glad to join!

Welcome - and you are now in the land of conjecture (because not many people have done this).  If you get a ODBEleven Pro dongle, you can now jailbreak into the modules which will allow you to get into the configuration of the system.  In theory, you should be able to enable up Skoda Surround (which will MASSIVELY) improve things, but I don't have a MK4 so I cannot comment.
