From Swing To Columbus

Featured Replies

Hi
I have just purchased a used Skoda superb
The multimedia system is a swing and I want to have navigation and bluetooth
The car does not have the MIB installed, is it possible to upgrade to a columbus?
will i have to buy cables?
I think it will be coded via vcds
Thanks

Hmm sounds like you don’t have a mk3, what year is your car?

Oh yes, sorry I can see now I'm on desktop.  Can you take a photo of your radio?

Edit: Ignore me, I thought they all had satnav as standard.

You won’t be the first to ask so I’m sure someone will know what to do

I would need to know if there are any additional cables to take and some advice on coding

the picture i got it from internet but the radio is that model

Are you sure this is a superb you have, dash isnt correct for a mk3

If you did have this basic radio in a superb it is a major job to upgrade to the newer radios requiring a lot of specialised skill and coding, not least, the software required.

Cables as in diagnostic - vcds, odis, vcp, or a combo of all 3 depending

cables for the car, it’s hard to say but there’s no ‘kit’ for it, and if you don’t have a MIB unit in your glovebox then there’s so much more involved

You also need a security access geko account from vw to enable the new unit, there’s no getting round this.
you’d also need to find the vehicle specific dataset that matches up with your car, and at least run new wiring for the nav antenna

last question
the bluetooth is included in the MIB unit or is it a separate module?

if not, could you list the part number?

Part of your problem is that the Swing is an 'all in one' unit, whereas, the Bolero, Amundsen and Columbus are all split in to the 'display' and 'brain', the latter is located above the glovebox.

You'll need to extend the wiring from behind the screen to the glovebox and add a few extra wires to power/drive the display. You'll probably also need a new trim piece in around the glovebox too. Here's an example of the kind of wiring you'll need, other (cheaper?) sellers are available and this may not fit your car: https://eurozonetuning.com/products/quadralock-wiring-harness-for-discover-pro-retrofit

To get it working properly, you'll need CP matching (a dealer can do this) and also the FeC/SWaP codes adding (a dealer cannot do this) so you'll need to look for hacked units where CP has been removed and all features have been activated. Might be worth asking @pab567 to see what he's got in stock :)
