@wyx087No need to explain this **** to me, i plug in charge up and drive and pay or not.

Best get the sales people and vloggers to understand it so those that might end up driving the do.

@Graham ButcherIt is worthwhile if someone thinks it is worthwhile.   Even crap old EV,s get welding and kept on the road.

You really are trying hard to make something sound difficult, impossible or not worth the bother.

There are people converting ICE vehicles to EV,s, Classic or just unusual ICE vehicles.  Any enthusiast will be able to recommission an EV to be an EV and maybe an improved EV.

He knows Aberdeen is not on the West coast, it will have been a brain fart.

No, you're misunderstanding what I'm saying, welding is an obvious thing that can be transferred between all kinds of vehicles, what I'm talking about is almost a ground up restoration to concourse standard as will be the fate of that Aston Martin DB4. There will always be classics, or at least I hope, in museums whereby the manufacturers donate vehicles off the production lines, but those are not driving examples that people can own, and use for example at shows etc.

^^^ We are in a different time where people have properties and space and lock away cars for years or decades.

But there will b people in places around the world that might well put their Taycan in a lock up and just leave it.   At their Holiday Home, in some Housing Scheme Garage with a door and padlock and an corrugated asbestos roof.

I don't know, am I not explaining this properly or what 🤔

You make it quite easy to understand really.   Really you do.    It is about something that really does not matter to you is it?

About as relevant to the Truth about Electric Cars as the Fires, the Ship Fires, the Bus fires and the rest of this stuff.

Really it is, it's just another perspective and no its not always bad things, but another view point on the current and future situations and was/is a genuine question about would we be able to continue what we enjoy now in the future. You also clearly enjoy the old classic car scene just as much as I do.

I will not be around in 20 years let alone 30 years so not really bothered.

I like seeing Classics currently being future proofed and going to be out and about because they are being converted to electric.

As to the First Tesla's or Leaf they will still be around for many many years.

Don't talk like that, are you older than I am then, I'm 75 this year? We could both be here for our 100th birthday, you never know. Besides I like to think that we would be leaving a legacy for our children and grandchildren just as our forefathers did for us👍

^^^ Exactly, you are less likely to see Barn Find EV,s than i am.

Doubt my Grandchildren could give a damn but they do like EV,s, virtual headsets, smart phones etc, and tell me and their dad to slow down.

It's all part of history, I didn't experience WW2 but I'm still interested in it, so is my son with his love of warbirds and he's only 40 😂

Good solid 5th place in WW2 kills....     https://worldwarwings.com/most-fighter-kills/

The top 5 starts with the Spitfire by the British Royal Air Force. The Spitfire’s elliptical wing design and sunken rivets gave it exceptional speed during WWII. It has a total of 4,000 kills to date.

Next up is the Hellcat, which supersedes it with 5,229 kills. This American fighter plane was mainly used in the Pacific War against the Japanese.

Crowd favorite P-51 places 3rd on the list with close to 6,000 kills. This plane gave the Americans the edge in air superiority during WWII.

Second place goes to the FW 190 with more than 10,000 kills. Germany used this warbird alongside the BF 109 for the Luftwaffe.

The plane with the most kills goes to the BF 109. Perhaps the most important part of the Luftwaffe, the BF 109 helped the German forces to have air supremacy for some time.

Arh yes, but that Spitfire I photographed is rather special and I also know the owner of it and I have personally many times helped to push it in and out of its hangar, along with his other Spitfire and P51, all of which are as authentic as you could to the original planes as flown in the war, even down to same skins with bullet damage.

Has anyone else heard about the new parking charges being introduced in London for electric vehicles? Apparently they are going to be charged more than their equivalent ICE vehicle? Guess what they are basing it on, the battery size and also looking at the emissions of them, WTF is going on.

Talk about mixed messages, one minute they are trying to push people down the electric route, next they are trying to stick their hands again into our pockets and say that now that people are making the switch and there are more electric vehicles on the streets, they now want to charge you inflated charges for parking, of upto 1800% increase just because you have an EV.

All I have on this at the moment is this, which is normally in my experience a pretty reliable source, hopefully further information will come to light soon.

Sounds fair enough.

The Sun needs to use a spell checker. A human one.

While having a tea break the Editors might want to read the articles.

It looks to me as if the plan is to get people out of cars all together and onto PT, bikes or walking.

There are large ICE vehicles around which are very heavy and also have large fuel tanks but parking charges for them are not currently under review. Current figures show there are 1M electric vehicles in the UK v 35M ICE

So that kind of suggests that there is yet another reason behind this move.

Good.  Sounds like a plan, worked during covid and well suited to the milder south of the UK, and in Cities and in local communities like are planned with High Streets and Community Complexes. Health Centres, Police Stations, Schools.

All not going to happen where most people live, or where they go to work because everyone does not work from home.

Is it not really under current review for some councils.

i read differently. There are councils that have charges by size / weight, or propose to.

Gloom and doom.  Doomed he says.

I totally agree that larger battery EV's should receive higher government taxation of some sort. There is bigger embedded carbon emission in the larger battery production.

However, there are 2 glaring contradictions. This is only Islington, a borough that has always been anti-car. There may be an element of someone reading too much mainstream media FUD on EV's weight and battery production emissions.

First, embedded carbon for large battery does not translate to higher emissions during use. In fact, the more use the vehicle receives, the less per-mile emission. So as large battery vehicles get older, they need to be encouraged to keep on the roads. There should not be any form of penalty for use of large battery vehicles, the penalty should occur at point of sale for bringing said inefficient beasts into the world, eg. something functions like the lux-car tax band for 70 kWh or higher battery.

Second, the weight of EV's is not much different to newest ICE vehicles these days. For weight based usage penalty, it should be applied equally across all vehicles. How much would a petrol PHEV range rover pay for the same parking permit, it should be more than a Model X?

Of course, getting people out of cars in the city makes a huge amount of sense. Islington council is all about that.

Range Rover SE (not PHEV, not 7 seater) weighs 2.7 tons

Model X can spec to 7 seater and weighs up to 2.5 T: https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/2015_2020_modelx/en_cn/GUID-5FB8FC1E-0B1D-4ECC-99D6-4EEE2B8FB725.html

@wyx087No, it is not only Islington, Westminster, Wandsworth and many others, and what is even more bizarre is that there are many more just as heavy or even heavier ICE, but they are not affected by these new rules.

The Westminster increase is an outlier, their pre-2014 policy is that parking EV for 4 hours (max) only need to pay 10min. From March 2024 the discount is disappearing, there are no extra to be paid.

https://www.westminster.gov.uk/parking/changes-how-we-charge-parking

I'm can't find any written sources on Wandsworth, but they are all likely to be similar change of policy as EV's become normal and the end of gravy train.

Only Islington is applying additional costs based on battery size, from the Sun article root posted.

Westminster corrected, it's from March 2024

The Media are just so Click Bait reliant.    I have not a clue from the Trash Press owned by the same as own the 'Serious Press' and who just go on their articles.

The streets of London might not be paved with gold, but the gutters and sewage systems must have pretty valuable waste materials of precious metals and minerals such as are collected / harvested in other cities and areas by companies involved in this type of recycling.

That was some 3 years ago, but I'm talking about cars 30 years or older. That Aston DB4 in the video I posted is at least 60 years old. James Bond used the DB5 in the film Goldfinger, and that car came out in 1964.
