help needed a cheap alternative to the dunlops

I appreciate you are new but there is thread after thread on this subject. A simple use of the search feature will dig up many alternatives.

I really do think it's about time there was a dedicated section to tyres and am behind those pressing for this additional forum.

Kumho, cheap and cheerful.

Why do you need cheap tyres !!!

Don't forget tyres are the thing that keeps you on the road before you get put 6ft under

I recently purchased a pair of 225/45/R17 Toyo Proxes T1-R for my Octy from etyres for

I got a set of Pirelli PZero Neros 215-45-17 from Eiretyres, same as mytyres and they only cost

Anybody had any experience of 'Sunny' tyres. Look almost identical to Toyo's at half the price?.

There's cheap and there's inexpensive. Dunlops are cheap, but Toyos are inexpensive (and cost less than Dunlops too).

They suply VW according to that add.

Can't say I have ever seen a Skoda with them on so they may mean they supply outside of the EU. Personally don't scrimp that much on decent tyres. As has been said they are the only thing holding you to the road and letting you stop or corner.

What ad? :-|

My comments about Dunlop are based on personal experience (wore out fast and didn't grip that well to make up for it)' date=' and 3rd party tests. Check this as a typical link http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-tests-news/smaller-brands-lead.htm

Kumho KU31

Had them on for a while and very pleased with them.

Wore the Dunlops out after 18,000 miles. Bought at set of Marshal tyres from DM Tyres in Oldham Lancs. Khan, the boss, recommended them and gets them to order. They only take a day or two to get hold of. They lasted about 24000 miles. To my mind they're a better tyre and I've no complaints. They cost me £185 the lot balanced and fitted. I've had two further sets since and they've each cost £200 per set. I've done around 80,000 miles now and there's probably 5,000 miles left on the set I've got on. I get them to chuck in a free hand car wash at the same time.

The sunny tyres ad

What "Sunny Tyres" ad? I'm not trolling; there are no billboards hereabouts, and the only things I normally watch on ITV are motorsport shows.

Sunny Tyres - All, I was being dense, and thinking of a Tv ad, rather than a claim that VAG supply them as OEM somewhere in the world!

Soz.

I assume "Sunny" tyres are for the dry..:) Can you get " Not so Sunny " tyres for the Wet..........:)

As stated by some other before me the last thing anyone should consider doing is skimping on the cost of decent tyres.

Without tyres your brakes and steering are useless!!!!! - your tyres are your only contact with the road surface (until after a disaster happens - or a speed bump taken too fast).

Tyres should be selected for best road handling - for your model of car.

This is something I'm looking for a good answer to myself:

1) My dad will soon need new tyres on his '08 Octy after 53k Km. - he's got about 3 - 5mm left on his original Perrelli's

(I didn't know Octi's were ever shipped with P6000's but that's what's on there - originally sold in ROI.)

Now my personal experience of P6000's was very poor - but that was on a Honda Civic Hybrid. - they showed a massive reduction in wet weather handling - sufficient to saare my wife who dosn't even drive. They felt like they were aquaplaning after even a damp road. - I'll never agree to having them on any car I drive again.

Before them I had Bridgestones (an energy saving model) , and after them where Michelin Energy's - both far superior handling for that car.

2) I'm currently driving a '10 Superb. it came with Conti's. I've done 12k miles and the tyres are about half way. I'm happy enough sticking with the same - but will want to know what other tyres are recommended or not for handling. - That car's a company car through LEX, so they will be likely to stick whatever Quick-Fit choose on when I order new tyres - unless I make big noises about avoiding specific makes & Models.

Previous posters have refered to "Review Section" I cant' find this in the menus.

Previous posters have suggested using the Search Engine: that sounds like a good Idea - but when "Octavia Estate Tyres" returns thousands of results with items about radios in the top 5 I really don't have much faith in the search engine - and find it utterly unusable. - There's no options for searching for "Any" or "ALL" of the search terms - and I've never been able to get to specific articles except by blind luck or hours of trawling through search results.

i did try and do my tyre survey and get a a official thread with brisk folk rating but its abit lost somewhere :giggle:
