xenons

Featured Replies

Hi, anyone know what the factory fitted xenon dipped beam bulb colour temp is ? And any feedback on using cheaper (ebay) replacements.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the originals are 4,500K.

I'd avoid cheap non-brand ones.

You can get original Osram for around 30 to 40 per bulb these days.

Are your bulbs failing or already gone?

just not as bright as they once were ( 2007 original bulbs)

Chances are the lenses will need a clean.

Take the entire headlight out (easy on the mk2 Octavia). Remove the bulb, and you can clean the inside of the lenses once the bulb is out.

I found one of the below kids sponge on a stick ideal when I did mine.

Thanks, wouldn't expect them to get  that dirty inside headlamp unit ?

They can get really quite dirty inside

How they seem really dirty, can it be seen outside the headlights really?

My 2009 can't understand wether it is dirty or not, as the outside part is crystal clear...

What a dirty projector could seem?

mine has factory xenons and   im not really impressed  with them... is it just a case of  replacing them  the same way as replacing a  normal  bulb  ?

Yes but need to be aware how to handle the bulb in the housing .

In an average of 10 years, the bulbs would be good to be replaced both, they may tend to fade in years use especially in UK that they are used all the time.

Perhaps replacing and fitting a decent Philips /Osram set could make things much better.

would it be worth converting to HID  ??  i have load level adjusters and head lamp wash  fitted from the factory

HID means your system is xenon already....

What you mean?

sorry i get you now ... dip beam performance  is " average " to say the least  My 1982 E28 bmw has a better dip beam than this ...  so  sounds like a  new 2021  HID system  is  in order

Try to change the bulbs with a new set and or your headlights might need internal lenses /projectors cleaning like mines need and which in going to have it done in the next days.

I believe you'll then notice a big improvement.

Can you  show a picture of your headlights to see what's the condition?

are they H4 H7 etc ??

Headlight cover seems fine, but can't seem well how much smoke  the projector has on it,

I think I would  insist on the bulbs,

How many years are they on installed?

HID lamps from MK2 if I recall correctly is D1S.

well they are factory xenons  i have checked through the bills of the car  and no new  bulbs  fitted from new  so they could be  2007 vintage ... think its time for some new  ones

Nice, this is  just what I thought...

Just choose a decent good quality, not cheap ones.

Merry Christmas!

Merry xmas as well

When you find the chance to have the bulbs replaced, come back and let know what the difference will be with some info.

Good luck!

I recently bought a 2012 Octavia with factory xenons.

Although the lights were fine and plenty bright enough, I still had a set of Osram cool blue intense bulbs from my Saab that had only covered about 20k miles and 2 years so I fitted them.

There was still a noticeable increase in output and a much whiter light.

I do also have adaptive xenons where they adjust at lower and higher speeds etc which also helps to throw the light out.

Osram very good ones too.

Having referred and  talked about the condition of the headlights themselves perviously, how do yours look like?

Do they seem to have the aged foggy projectors or are clear?
