Thule 9106 bike rack

Featured Replies

When I was looking for a bike rack for my Yeti Thule did not listed a rear hatch fit unless you have a towbar fitted. When I was looking closely at the Thule 9106 I had used on my Octavia over the years travelling across Europe.
Well I thought why not see if it would fit on the back of the Yeti?
Carefully assemble the rack on rear hatch and checking that the clamps won't damaging the paint plus making sure that cleared the number plate and brake lights.

You can see that there's no problems in fitting the rack. Only thing is there would be increase of fuel consumption due to the drag of the above the roof line.
1st image is the rack fitted to my Octavia Estate. The others are same rack fitted the Yeti.

I put my bikes on the roof. I've never liked those hang on racks. I agree mine would be a bit harder to put on and remove, but I can do on my own. I just think the roof bars are more secure.

I was stopped for having a load 2" wider than the car,

I was in a traffic snarl up and a cyclist had called an officer over and pointed it out.

It was an informal chat as I was almost home.

Mmm, so he also stopped and chatted to every  caravanist as well?

When I bought my Yeti L&K used back in 2018 it had a tow bar fitted I was not to happy thinking it may have towed a caravan or similar  but was assured it was a mountain bike rack THULE  that was fitted  and have the fittings  lying in the boot inc instructions  including the detached tow hook which incidentally was factory fitted  supplied from new. Always  nervous following behind those roof or boot device  in case the bikes fly off 😄

There were no caravans so don't be silly. The cyclist complained that the load on my roof rack

was too wide.

I bet the overhang didn't exceed the width of the doormirrors.

On the one hand they want motorists to give them a wide berth, 1.5m or so, very reasonable if its safe to do so, but on the other hand they want to squeeze past on either side in traffic.

If I position my vehicle central in its lane on the Paris périphérique as soon as the traffic slows down I get abuse from motorcyclists who want to drive through without slowing down, move to the left and the next one will want to pass on that side.

TBH I thought and may be wrong that the permitted overhang on the sides was 305mm (past the wing/door mirrors,) and if it exceeded that then you need a wide load permit so 50mm is unlikely to break any rules. 🙂

what is ok for vehicle traffic may annoy someone on a bicycle

who has gone to the trouble of fixing a Go Pro to their helmet

in case they decide to take offence, so they will have the evidence.

🤣🤣🤣
