EA189 Emissions confusion

Featured Replies

I’m looking to buy a 2010 2.0 140 bhp Octavia. This would have the EA189 engine. I looked up on the Skoda Emissions checker to see if has had the “fix” and it states “This vehicle is not affected, enjoy your Skoda” Does this mean it’s had the emissions fix done ? I’m confused. Anybody ? Cheers.

AIUI it means that this vehicle is not subject to the "emissions fix".

Thanks for reply but I was under the impression that all EA189 engined cars were up for the recall ??

2010 if I remember correctly was the change over year where they went from PD to the ea189 common rail engines.

It may have a PD engine which will be unaffected.

Post a link to the car we may be able to play detective.

I'd say if the engine code starts with the letter A or B it's pre-EA189, if it starts with a C it'll be an EA189?

Thanks WINO. Can’t get hold of the owner right now to get the code but I’ll check it thoroughly when I get to see it tomorrow. Don’t want a PD 2.0. I’ve got a Yeti 2.0 CR 170 with 415,000 miles on it so ‘nuff said. I think after doing some research that the PD was phased out in 2008 so I reckon I’ll probs be in luck. Cheers.

Only the vrs had the PD engine dropped for the common rail in 2008. The rest of the lower power engines were pd until 2010.

Thanks softscoop . I’ll double check the engine code.

Got a link to the for sale advert?

It should be easy to work out which engine it has even without the engine code.

The PD engines have co2 output in the 140gm range, where as the CR are lower around 129.

According to Parkers, the PD stopped May 2010, and the CR was available from June.
