-Hopefully of use to somebody.

Thanks for this.

If I call up customer services will they send me some fuel?

Has anybody actually used this fuel in their car? Is there a noticeable difference when using it compared to 97/98 RON. Most performance engines are optimised for 97/98 RON so I'm not sure what benefit the 99 RON will give.

I've been using 99 ron at my local Tesco in rainy ole MK

And shall continue to :D

My car is mapped for 98, but the 99 is cheaper than Optimax....

I use both, depending upon where I am, and have no problems.

Noticed that my local Tesco's now stocks 99ron.

I'll stick to the city diesel.

Interestingly i saw an article a while back.. (might have been on here) about a test a ford mag did on fuels.. they properly bench-tested a 500-odd bhp cossie engine with different fuels.. and the tesco one was the 2nd worst SUL brand behind normal supermarket SUL.

Optimax gave almost a 50bhp gain!!!!!

(the test was done by seeing how far they could advance the timing before cylinder detonation occoured)

the normal supermarket SUL couldnt even run the engine at its normal timing settings!!!

Where do the supermarkets get their fuel from? Presumeably the sources are limited to the major petroleum companies anyway. Are they just getting the scraping from the bottom?

Sainsbury's by me is by far the cheapest SUL around the area, but am not willing to put it in if it's going to effect performance.

I personally have no trouble with Tesco 99

-I don't use the 97 stuff.

I've had some duff fuel in the past (from a dodgy, IMO, Shell place) and the car didn't run right. I've reason to believe that my car puts out a reasonable amount of power when using Tesco 99 ;)

Best thing I can do is give it a try.

OPtimax and Ultimate seem to run fine in mine, Esso didn't show any problems but definitely wasn't as economic when I tried this.

I need to fill up to get to the Yorkshire meet this Sunday....................if I don't make it you know why!!:o

Have run Tesco 99 ron since it first came out, and would not use anything else..

Same place as everyone else.

In hampshire almost all the fuel will come from fawley. Different companies have agreements on fuel such that they use each others Depots, however the addatives added at some point may be different for different customers. Eg Ultimate is from a high grade tank, then there will be the other tank/tanks too. It may be that adatives are added to the fuel mix as the fuel is pumped, but I can't confirm this either way.

The supermarkets apparantly (So i was told) clean their tanks out less often and put something in the tanks to stop the crap at the bottom being pulled up. I can confirm that sainsbury standard unleaded caused all hell with a 1.1 HCS Fiesta on a carb, to the extent that the carb had to be flushed trhough and a inline fuel filter was put in. When i changed the filter I saw what looked like sand in it, and now the car runs on standard shell with no problems.

You will find that MTBE (Methy-Tertiary-Butyl-Ether) is used in unleaded to replace the lead to stop knocking.

EDIT: MOre reasearch on fueling, but was told it was added when put into tanker when i visited Fawley refinary by the guys showing us around.

Bah... not available in Dublin :(

I've been running the Primera on Tescos 99 ron for a while now. Marked difference over the regular stuff, would seem to improve MPG a bit.

any in scotland? ;)

96.9p in Milton Keynes

Crikes 101.5p in Northampton

101.9 at Andover

Still, at least there diesel has dropped to a more reasonable 98.9p

Chris (knew I should have filled up in Rochdale! )

BP ultimate is 102.9 in tamworth

Sainsburys SUL is under 100 just down the road.

Is that the one in Glascote?????

I could of sworn that it was just under the

It wont be available from the Brooklands site for a little while, as they ripped out all the petrol pumps yesterday!

  • 1 month later...

my local Tesco, which didnt even sell superunleaded 97 Ron, has now got 99 Ron unleaded, first time that I have seen it in the north west, Atherton Lancs to be precise!

I'm running my (6 week old) 1.6 FSI Octy on Tesco or Morrisons super-unleaded, and have noted some slight pinking when accelerating under load e.g. uphill (yes I am using the correct gear ratio!). Never had any problems using the same stuff with my (ex-)Golf, and normally I'd have blamed weak mixture/retarded ignition timing, but would changing to 99 RON or even Esso/BP 97 cure it in the Octy?

Excellent news! That's not too far from me either
