Thoughts please - Skoda Yeti 1.2TSI Battery Replacement - Factory fitted Battery is non stop start.

Featured Replies

Good morning all and thank you for reading this, I am a new member (I did post an introduction earlier), and greatly enjoy reading the views and advice hear from other Yeti owners.

My 1.2TSI is I think due a battery change (no big issue in completing this), however the battery type has me slightly confused. The car (2016) has stop start and I expected therefore to be looking for an exotice and expensive battery replacement and have been reading about coding issues etc should I buy a battery with a different spec to the original.

My current battery is a non stop start "Exide 1SO 915 105 A 12v 59AH 320A DIN 640A EN/SAE/GS"  (apologies if overkill on the type), which appears to be a non specific stop / start battery, does anyone have any experience of this? or why it would be fitted by Skoda? (the battery has not been replaced from new).

I will source as close to like for like as possible if the negates the need to re code or faff in general.

Thank you to all in advance for any views, appreciated.

Wait, this sentence seems to have a contradiction in it.  I've italicised the two bits that conflict.

An EFB is a start stop type of battery, albeit the cheaper version.

Good morning Wino and thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes it does say EFB my error in not quoting this.

I can see a similiar spec VARTA battery for about £100, does this need post fitting coding anyone? Cheers all.

My personal opinion is that if the replacement is also an EFB type, and the capacity (Ah) figure is the same or similar, coding will be inessential.

thank you.

I have a 1.4 stop/start and had to replace the battery last year. Took it to my local indy dealer who changed it in about 5 minutes without any re-programming, just removed the connections and old battery and installed a new battey, (about £140). I have not had any issues since?

My 1.6tdi is start/stop, I bought the biggest Bosch battery that would fit in the tray from Tayna - prices are keen and they delivered within 24hrs.

Which was nice :)

Going to ask a question on this for the OP ...... if your Yeti is a 2016 model and is currently fitted with an Exide battery, then what makes you think you need another replacement battery?

The Exide battery is not the original fitment, that would be marked with "Skoda, Seat, Audi and Volkswagen," if its an Exide branded battery then it has already been replaced for some reason suggesting a problem which is still there as you seem to think your Yeti is requiring its third battery in 5/6 years .... does not seem correct ... I'd honestly would have expected the original "Skoda" battery to have lasted approx. 8 years or longer.

@TruckbusUK If you follow the ebay link I posted earlier, you'll see that genuine batteries are indeed sometimes Exide branded.

Another example here, with VWAG engraved near the negative post and the VWAG part number top right.

Maybe the OP could look at his negative (battery!) post and see if it has a date code engraved on the top like in the 2nd image of that latest link?

Certainly will look, thanks.

OK, you learn every day, although in 40+ years of VAG ownerships I have never seen a non VAG branded battery supplied in a new vehicle from VAG that I have owned.

☝️

Well a slight relief that the batteries are lasting more than 2 years but I'm honestly surprised at it needing replaced quite so quickly.
