Can someone expalin to me automatic compoment protection and battery change, New to me Car

Featured Replies

i have just bought a 2nd hand skoda octavia estate facelift 1.0ts 2018 and the battery needs replacing. my local garage wants a radio code beofre the repalce the EFB battery so i phonw skoda main dealer 60 miles away and the say no code at your car has Automatic Component Protection  My localgarage still says it wants a code How does battery changing with component protection work, i know a new battery number needs to be added but anything else

Battery will need coding in and if component protection has come in then it may need u locking at main dealer:: this helps to protect against using stolen parts

They don't need one; ACP has stored the radio code in EEPROM in the main body ECU since the Octy 1 was introduced. The fact of a new battery does need programming to the car though.

The radio in my Octy 1 always asked for a code, I think you'll find it started with the Octy2 that was full canbus rather than the partial canbus on the Octy 1 ??

My Octy 1 has never asked for a code. It has the OEM Skoda radio-cassette head and CD stacker.

Component Protection only happens when certain modules, those that VAG think are most likely to be stolen, are replaced.

If you don't replace a module then component protection is irrelevant.

When changing the battery if the battery type and capacity are the same as the old battery then all that's needed is to change the serial number by one digit - that's enough to tell the BMS that a new battery has been fitted.

For many years the radio had stored the VIN of the car it is first installed into, now the radio is included in the component protection items so if it's the same radio in the same car there's nothing to do.

thanks, i understand now what ACP is, my 2012 Golf plus needed a code so was surprised the skoda didnt, i understand the concept of coding in the EFB battery which is totell the interligent charger it has a new battery

Thanks All

Very strange as mine had the OEM satnav unit and every time I removed it to do something it needed the 4 digit unlock code, unless yours was a late mk1 ? where the mk1 &2 overlapped and had effectively mk2 setup ??

52 registration. So post facelift but a ways from the mk2.
