Wireless Android Auto

Featured Replies

The screen isn't always off, that's settings dependant.

Also it depends on what you want to use in AA. I tend not to use it as I don't have any need to as most of the time if I do a long journey I do know in advance where I am going and what I want to listen to if anything.

I can also get Google to launch things via voice commands so in reality it is pretty superfluous, I use Waze more than anything if I want to be kept apprised about traffic information, however I try my best to choose the quicker and quieter routes for my journeys of over 100 miles.

So I'm just reporting in, just received my car, it also has Bolero and software version 1889. Android Auto wireless works flawlessly, I connected to the car using bluetooth, phone suggested that android auto is available, followed the instructions and it connected.

AFAIK for both Android Auto and CarPlay the initial connection is via Bluetooth which is then used to negotiate and enable the WiFi connection that AA & CP use.

Is there any chance to make Swing from Octavia 4 compatible with Android Wireless?

@alexxutzu as far as I know, Swing works only by USB cable.

You can buy one of the wireless android adapters, even Motorola makes one, if you don't trust the chinese somewhat unofficial versions.  https://motorolasound.com/audio-products/android-auto/ma1

https://www.cpeb.it/

https://carsifi.com/

all the options I can find quickly, but they have so many orders and most of them were kickstarted so delivery times are pretty long. And there are chinese versions, don't know about their quality/support though.

Do you have a WI-FI option in menu?

I have the same problem as trinajstich.

I know there is no problem with my phone because I have KIA RIO and my phone connects with no problem to AA wirelessly.

There is WiFi under settings, it shows my phone as connected. But I never went in there before.

Yeah, I thought that.

I don't have it and that is the reason why it doesn't work.

When I got the car my dealer ensured me that it should work and blamed it to my phone. I was suspicious but ok. After that I tried it with newest phones both android and iPhone and it still nothing.

I called him and asked him to check with Skoda if my car has Wi-Fi antenna integrated or not and he called me on Monday that he got an answer from main importer for my country and that it hardware wise it should work.

So my conclusion was that it it just case of false marketing because on my car specification it says Smartlink+ (with wire and wireless connection with AA, Carplay and Mirrorlink) and that Columbus only has Wi-Fi.

But now you give me new argument and hope that they did make a mistake and that I should have got wireless antenna integrated with Bolero.

In a Lithuanian price list it does say that Bolero has WiFi. Maybe it's just software gremlins? Something was left disabled after an update like some people had happen before on this forum.

Anyway this is what my phone sits in when in the car.

An automated Baseus wireless charger cradle attached to a Brodit Clip. It charges at 10w, even though it's attached to a 60w adapter.

But it also allows the phone to be connected to the USB port or charger via USB as well with no issues.

Actually, you do need to have both WiFi and BT connected so that AA starts working.

On your Bolero, select Settings.

Then look for the WiFi options - you must have the hotspot on and visible (not hidden).

In the same WiFi settings you should be having the option to fast connect to the WLan using the QR code, which needs to be scanned by your phone.

The QR shouldnt send you to a website, but to attempt to connect to a wifi connection.

My Columbus unit ending with a B version. When i do the things you type, it deactivates internal Esim and wants me to buy additional datapacket for hotspot. So, no wireless AA.

Wireless AA  doesn't work with units ending in A, B, or C, you need a software update that will change the version to F. Mine was originally B, now its F

With the Mk4s reputation for software errors dare I ask what's that F is for? 🤭

UPDATE - Yesterday I went to my Skoda dealer and they connected to car - probably with decoder or something and they manually activated WIFI. It was disabled in factory. Don't know why - and they don't know either.

Now - There is WIFI in the settings and Android auto works wirelessly without any problems.

Hope that is solution for others with 10'' Bolero with missing WIFI in settings and AA not working wirelessly.

I thought it would be a fluke in the settings, the chances that they changed the hardware somehow were too slim.

I can confirm that the dealer can fix this!

I was also missing the WiFi setting in my infotainment system. But the managed to got it working. Se my other post here for images.

Thanks to everyone in this thread, especially Domdomsa for finding out what could fix this!

This actually brought smile to my face. I know how frustrated I was when it didn't work and it should. Happy to help!
