Sportsline Fuel Consumption

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been driving around in the car for a few weeks now and although its taking forever to drain the tank I notice that the fuel computer is telling me that on a local trip I'm getting 13.4 L/100km and on a bit of an extended drive about 12.5L/100km. That's quite a bit different to 9.8 Urban and 6.9 Extra Urban. I have know idea what they filled it with at the dealership but E10 should only be about 3% worse. I'm assuming it doesn't have a tank of 91.

What do you guys get driving about?

I've got a 162 TSi (220) and these r my figures.

Car has a Stg 1 APR ECU tune, and larger 245/40/19 tyres.

I always use 98 RON.

According to my Fuelio app, I'm doing 8.49L/100.

I'm pretty happy with the economy, consistently getting 700 - 900 kms a tank. Also considering how hard I drive it, considering the bigger tyres, and considering the size of the Superb. 👍🏽

Long Term at 7.8L/100:-

Windy, twisty, up/down hill roads plus freeway driving, with AC set to Auto (22 deg):-

91, 95, 98 contain basically the same amount of energy per kilogram so in theory the same millage.

E10 is up to 10% ethanol with 91 and contains about 3% less energy than straight petroleum.

I wouldn’t say I’m using a lot of throttle and spend most of the time under 2000 rpm but there are hills and some stop start traffic.

Martinib seems to have similar urban figures.

They’re good figures JR. Similar to the book figures.

It’s about double my 125TDI Superb. That said I did buy it because it has the Golf R drive train.

@Legion   The issue with 'In theory' is that you are better going by fact.

You need to know what you actually are buying.

In the UK the 95 ron E5 might have as much as 5% bio in it up til last year, and then it had to be E10 with as much as 10% bio in.

Neither amount had to be in, it was how much could be added.

Then the E5 Super Unleaded 97/99 ron min in the UK can have Up to 5% Bio / Ethanol in it.

There are some brands with Zero Bio / Ethanol in in some areas of the UK.

  eg ESSO Synergy 99.

Maybe even Tesco Momentum 99 at different times & places.

These are the commandments for Australia:

The first and great commandment - DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER put 91 ron fuel in a Superb 206.

The second commandment is like the first - DO NOT PUT Australian E10 fuel in a Superb 206.

If NSW fuel is anything like South Australian fuel then it is just 91 Octane with up to 10% Ethanol added which may then bring it up to 94 Ron (with up to 140 ppm sulphur
)

The problem is that when the E10 fuel was independently tested the quantity of Ethanol added varied from 10% to none so now stations don't even advertise the ron rating of the E10 fuel and there is a little sticker on the pump warning about the possibility of variation.

Look at the manual or inside the filler cap to ascertain the best

Of course the absurdity of State laws may mean that  NSW may have different fuel specifications but you should check.

always always always 98ron.

95ron if ur out of fuel and there is no other option.  put in 5L or so, so u can get to a servo with 98 ron.

91ron - never.  i'd rather call roadside service to bring me some fuel or get my car towed on the back of a truck.

With my sportline 280 (206kw), I used to manage around 31 mpg, so about 9l/100km. And that was mainly motorway driving, I almost only used 99 RON petrol in it as well.

With the fuel Consumption, I don't trust them as they are all done in perfect laboratory testing, so they are not accurate to real life driving.
