Facelifted Karoq - Prices and specs revealed

Featured Replies

Skoda UK have now announced details of the facelifted Karoq, with the order book opening on 17th February and first deliveries expected by late Spring.

The headlines are just 3 trim levels - SE Drive, SE L and Sportline, with 4 engines - the 1.0 TSI (110 PS), 1.5 TSI (150 PS), 2.0 TDI (116 PS), and 2.0TDI (150 PS). A 7 speed DSG box is available with the 1.5TSI (150 PS) and 2.0 TDI (150 PS). Only the 2.0TDI (150 PS) can have 4x4 drive.

Prices seem to have increased by around £1500 from September 21.

I don't get it. The Karoq range now starts at £25,950 instead of £23,675, an increase of £2,275 or a shade under 10%. No doubt the new SE Drive will be comparably well-equipped, but the lack of an SE model is troubling for those who still see Skoda as a go-to manufacturer for affordable everyday cars. Clearly Skoda UK feel there is no market for a comparitively basic spec in the UK, unlike Germany, Czechia, etc.

Mind you, the Seat Ateca starts at £25,140 and includes free metalic paint. I know where my money would go if I was looking to place an order today.

Presumably the SE trim (and hopefully 2.0TSI engine) will be added some time after the launch?

Skoda UK may be thinking that they can't cope with the demand at present, and the eager beavers wanting the new model will take the most popular trims and engines.

The loss of the Edition trim is odd too, as that was very popular in the UK.

Chris

Thanks for the info Chris.

The SE L now contains as standard all the extras I added to my Karoq in 2018.

Which hopefully explains the price hike, and perhaps makes the Edition trim redundant?

No SE trim is probably not bad thing, seeing as latest SE trim on Fabia, Scala, Kamiq now gets mechanical rather than electric rear windows.

On the other hand, there are those that like to keep it simple, and just want a car to drive to shops and do the school run etc. Don’t need vast amounts of electronic gizmos that they will never use anyway, are a distraction, and just something else to potentially go wrong and cause problems.    But Skoda seems to have abandoned its former loyal customers who wanted cheap, simple and reliable.  Presumably they are now expected to buy a Dacia instead.

I paid £26,170 OTR ordered 19/1/18, delivered 26/4/18. Price included extras (now standard) free cost upgrade for a metallic colour, 3 years servicing and 5 yr warranty.

So £27,785 OTR (plus real spare wheel) like-for-like + metallic colour + DSG not so shabby, especially if I can get warranty thrown in and maybe servicing. The thing that may swing it is the current high trade in prices.....in Phoenix Orange! I love Business Grey, silver in some lighting conditions, bluey grey in others. But as its not available now, its time for a little colour!

Grey and monochrome has been done to death imo.

I would hate a Tesla dashboard. Its a car not a video game. Im sticking with the Karoq as it has buttons and dials, and the best car I have ever owned. Again, imo.

£36950  😲     That's just insane.   I guess Skoda can sell '7 seats' as it's mojo for the more powerful Kodiaqs but what's the attraction in the Karoq? I can't see a market for this in the UK, will be amazed if they sell more than a handful.  I can see with some other brands the car will carry badge status for some, but to have a Skoda badge on the bonnet?  It'll be discontinued before the year's out.

Well they sold 644 in 2019 and 202 (according to DVLA website - no figures for 2021 yet) so there's clearly a market there!

And I can confirm it's a lovely car to drive, with perfectly acceptable fuel consumption. (And the facelifted model has improved CO2 and MPG figures too. Just a pity that Area View has disappeared from the option list, and I can't see a heated windscreen either.)

So are you going to buy one?

Do you have the price for those in 2019? And even at that, the market has changed somewhat. If it were a PHEV then £37k - still crazy expensive but I could see it selling.

I have a bog std Nov 2019 1.5tsi DSG Edition which cost me £24950.  ( I think the metallic paint was inc. in Edition spec )

Not sure how much of an incentive is available today if those are the list prices, but I'd suggest the Karoq ain't going to sell in the numbers it did. But to then introduce one which costs £37k...  It doesn't really matter how it drives, at the end of the day it's only a 2.0L 4 cyl Skoda Karoq - I mean it's not even the GTi engine. I'll be stunned if anybody apart from Skoda themselves, register one. I go with a dozen no Skoda registration tops before it's discontinued.

I'm not sure how the price of the new model stacks up in other countries, but it's not looking great for UK customers.

The entry level Karoq with metallic paint now starts at £26,620 OTR. The Ateca is available from £25,140 with all metallic paint colours as no cost options. It will be interesting to see what discounts are available, but I wouldn't pay a £1500 premium for the Karoq over the Ateca, which is arguably a bit better looking.

It's odd as the equivalent Seat is usually a little bit more expensive than Skoda, i.e. Ibiza > Fabia, Arona > Kamiq, although the Tarraco is a bit cheaper than the Kodiaq, once paint is accounted for.

If you can see the signature panel on my post, you'll see I bought one in October 2020 as a factory order! Much cheaper than the equivalent Tiguan or Q3, with options they couldn't provide. And I don't see the need to pay thousands for a VW or Audi badge on a car!

I buy cars to keep for 7 or so years rather than rent for 3 years, so the trade-in depreciation evens out. But this will probably be my last new car anyway as electric cars don't meet my needs.

How do I find out how many cars like mine were sold?

190ps tdi Edition registration Aug 20?

Can you tell how many in a particular colour?

As you did, I wanted a nice spec car but not at Audi or VW prices!

This website Search results for 'skoda karoq' - How Many Left? tells you how many cars are still registered or SORN. If you delve deeper you can find out the engine sizes fitted - but not the colours!

So, has anyone ordered yet?  I think I shall be making a trip to my dealer very soon.  I was originally looking at the 1.5 Tsi SEL DSG with various addons, but then had a look at the Sportline.  For a little under £1000 more than the SEL I'd planned on going for, I could get the Sportline with all of the features I want, some of which are standard on the Sportline anyway, plus additional features which are also standard on the Sportline, such as sunroof, matrix LED headlights, etc.  It seems to be a no-brainer.

I tried the configurator. My wife likes the orange colour. It seems buggy and options seem to have changed. No electric tailgate as option on SE-L so I wouldn't have been able to upgrade an SE-L to our required spec. Interesting to see that te heated steering wheel is now standard. Try using the configurator to upgrade wheels from wht appears to be a standard black wheel. It has a tab for other options, and if you follow it, it says you cannot upgrade without upgrading your standard model, presumably to Sportline. If you try the same thing on a Sportline the same thing happens, and it directs you to a choice of either Sportline or SE-L. And does the SE-L have Varioflex seats? I can't see it mentioned.

There is an option on the SE-L for Electrically operated tailgate with virtual pedal at £730 (I added this option while configuring), and it does have Varioflex seats.

Edited by RCC49

I obviously didn't look carefully enough! I have reconfigured a new SE-L to approximately the same spec as our Edition. Can't find a virtual cockpit option and ours (I beleive) doesn't have regenerative braking. Nearly £34k!, £3.5k more than we paid. And on resale it would still be an SE-L with options that  probably wouldn't incease the value above a standard SE-L.

the virtual cockpit is standard on all versions, though the larger version (10.5" I think) is an upgrade.

I agree, but then I preferred the looks of the Sportline anyway - body coloured bumpers etc. I also prefer the rear seat on the Sportline, but others here love the 3 sliding / removable seats on the SEL etc.

You have to look very carefully at the options to see what is included. At first the heated windscreen seemed to have disappeared until I found it in the Winter + pack, and the assist pack also seems to include more than is immediately stated. We'll have to wait for the brochure to get the full details I guess.

The only options that aren't being offered in the UK yet (but were included in the launch press release) are Area View and Trailer Assist as far as I can see,

Chris

I noticed this too Chris. I think more manufacturers will be going down the "package" route. Shame tbh.

To get the heated windscreen on a SE-L you have to have rear seat heating, adding to cost. Don't like my very occasional rear passengers getting too comfortable....

But pleased the heated steering wheel is standard on the SE L. One of those that you don't realise how good it is until you have it. An extra little bit of luxury in the Winter.

Signs that Skoda is following the traits of its elder brother VW, Audi?  Increased prices and option packs?  Still think they are the best value available but will profits move the brand away from loyal customer base?  Hopefully it won’t.
