Pretty sure they're aluminium.

Personally i hate the things, got in the car once and sliced the top of my knee open on them, in the bin after that.

 

So I ordered these and installed them today. They're actually better quality than I was expecting: aluminium and fit perfectly to the new style paddles. Good purchase.
