Pollen filter replacement

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

How to access the pollen filter on Octavia mk4 ?

I managed to disengage the brake rod on the storage compartment.

But the problem is : "If you press the latch, the storage compartment folds down". I tried to squeeze only with my fingers, and later with screwdriver, but it wasn't enough.

Hi. You need to use a tool (screwdriver) as you did with force. It don't seems right but it works. After that it's straight forward to remove the cover and replace the filter.

Does the pollen filter only work when air care is switched on?

No, as in any other car, the pollen filter is on the main air intake, so it filters all the air pushed in by the vent (dust, small insects, whatever impurities get sucked in)

Is there another filter for the aircare part of the system then?

I managed to replace the pollen filter this weekend with a Mann Filter (carbon) part number 50744053900057 which retails for about £16.

It was a 5 minute job and I found I didn't need to disengage the brake rod. Instead, after disengaging the latches (labelled 1 in the diagram) the glove box opened fully to expose the filter compartment.

The dealer wanted £65 to do this as part of a service!!

Cheers for the tip with the latches and for reminding me to do this. I opted for a Bosch carbon filter for I think £13 from euro car parts; dealer quoted £69!

Chipping in here with a question about the arrow of the airflow, whioch way should the arrow point??? Seeing multiple video's on how to replace the filter, but no mentioning of the position.

Who has the 100% def correct answer?

Thanks to all in advance!

When you take the old one out, observe the dirt and insects on the upper surface. This confirms the air comes from outside - up in the plenum chamber area - and passes down to the fan motor underneath. So airflow arrow points down - as one of the prior photos shows.

Thanks @inspectorman got confused for a minute here.

One More Thing all, would one of you be so kind to snap a picture with the motor comkpartment open and then from the LED light unit. Is something connected at the arrow indicated in my picture? I think I'm missing the headlight ventilation things here.
