License plate Switzerland issue (Skoda Karoq from Spain)

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I hope you can help me here. I'm a very, very new car owner, only had my lovely 2021 Skoda Karoq 1.5TSI Automatic since last year, and I'm trying not to mess it up too much.

I was living in Poland when I bought my car, and I have recently moved to Switzerland.

The issue that I have is that in Switzerland, the front license plate is much smaller than in Europe.

Switzerland sizes:

  • 300 x 80 mm (front) and 300 x 160 mm (rear).

Europe sizes:

  • 520 by 110 mm (20.5 by 4.3 inches)
  • 520 by 120 mm (20.5 by 4.7 inches)

As you can see from the attached picture, when I remove the front license plate holder, there are 2 holes in each side that would fit the EU plate holder, and a small indent that I would assume would be for countries with smaller plates (e.g. Switzerland).

I assume there is no way around other than drilling those indents to place the new license. However, can anyone recommend what do I do to "fix" the 2 open holes?

Thank in advance!

It either a mechanical fixture (ie drill and bolt) or use some type of adhesive. I'd try a 3M double sided automotive tape and just stick it on. But its not something you can pull on and off. Removing would destroy the tape.

For the hole, I've seen some plugs used on other models which look better than a hole. If you want to spend a bit more then there are mobile bumper repair people who will repair the holes and then paint and blend the area.

If you're going to use the 3M tape you would need to do the repair first so they can paint and blend the area.

That would be my thoughts
