Rear Cigarette lighter to USB conversion

Featured Replies

Has anyone converted the rear centre arm rest cigarette lighter in the Karoq to USB's with one of these kits on AliExpress?

Currently they are listed at £17.25 + Vat which is tempting.

If anyone does, it would be interesting to know if they switch off with the ignition. Do they do a usb c version?

Isn't it simpler to just plug in a USB phone charger to get one or two USB sockets? Examples shown here Mobile Phone Car Chargers | MyMemory

Or am I missing something??

Sure looks a far easier option.

Not sure about a USB-C version of this but I assume that it will always stay live as it's using the same wiring loom to connect to. Maybe its low price is because it's an older style USB version?

After thinking about this I may just stick with the plug in USB to cig lighter adaptors that I'm currently using (front & back) & find a USB-C to cig lighter adaptor to swap to if needed. This keeps the cig lighter which I still need for a 3-pin 240v inverter gadget & an air compressor I have.

On the other hand there is another cig lighter in the boot. Decisions decisions!

Yep. That's what I have now. Just wondered if anyone had done this conversion. As Routemaster1461 said USB-C is becoming more common so a bunch of cig lighter to USB / USB-C adaptors may be the way to go after all.

I’m sure it would be, but the AliExpress one would look (imho) so much nicer.

Yes, agreed. I've an Anker one off Amazon that works fine.

+1 for the USB phone charger option.

It can be used in the front or the back - and if you or your passengers have USB-A ,USB-C or other versions, they can be interchanged rather than commiting to a particular version.

I was thinking about doing this to our Karoq and wondered if anyone ever converted the rear centre arm rest cigarette lighter in the Karoq to USB’ s with one of the kits from AliExpress.

If so was it successful and are there any problems
