Anyone dead set on Sportline estate, but then changed to an L&K and glad you did ?

I'd love a V60 but boot a lot smaller than Octavia or Superb.   I'd really love a V90 cross country, but as long as a bus...and again boot smaller

We were almost set on the new Volvo v 60 to replace our Volvo xc 70 d5 that we owned for 15 years, when we saw the boot size we bought the Superb estate.

Martin.

When I was looking for a 2nd hand petrol Superb estate in 2018 to replace my old Mk2 Superb 170TDi Elegance I wanted a Sportline.

However, I also wanted the 280 engine, 4 x 4, leather, heated front windscreen, DCC, heated seats etc. This pretty much ruled out the Sportline. 280's in any guise were as rare as hens teeth at the time I was looking but I eventually found a 2.5 year old 2016 66 plate L&K 280 estate in Black metallic with 22k on the clock. It had no rear camera or sunroof but apart from that it had everything else I could want plus a few things I didn't need - park assist (never used) & lane assist (turned off the day I got it). It was a quick car as stock but I added a Revo stage 1 remap (360BHP) & now my "under the radar dad's" car now has a real turn of speed when needed. A hugely practical & capable car which I will probably keep for a while yet. And, according to Autotrader used car prices, I reckon I could now get very close to what I paid for it back in May 2018!! Amazing.. So am I glad I went for an L&K over a Sportline? Oh yes.

We think the same way! I swapped my 2011 mk 2 TDi 170 Elegance estate (4x4 in my case) for a 2017 L&K 280 just before COVID hit. And I am now considering the Revo stage 1!

Do you (or anyone else?) find any downsides to the remap in terms of drivability, economy, reliability etc.? Or are there really no undesirable side effects?

For me there are no real downsides to the Revo remap. The fuel consumption, which was not great to start with, has remained the same. Circa 25-28mpg around town & up to 36-38mpg or more on a run (I use Tesco Momentum 99 octane which is needed to get the best out of this engine). Luckily I don't do high mileages anymore so a lowish mpg is not an issue for me & was a contributing factor for me switching from a diesel to a petrol car.

I'm also considering a Revo DSG remap as well but I'm not sure if this is really needed. Apart from the slight hesitation when moving off in D mode (which can be solved by selecting Sport mode to reduce the lag), the OEM DSG config is OK'sh for me. That said anything can be improved but not having sampled a  remapped DSG I can't make a comparison or decide if that investment is worth doing.

As for the engine remap well that's a different story. The extra 80bhp & 100+nm of torque make a substantial difference. The extra torque in D mode makes for quick progress without the DSG having to hang onto each gear. In Sport mode it's the reverse & borders on brutally savage acceleration as it revs up to just beyond the red line in the lower gears. That said it is huge fun when you want to make quick progress or overtake slower moving traffic. When needed I flick it into Sport mode for quick response to get onto onto roundabouts & when joining motorways etc & then put back into D mode for normal use. I hardly ever feel the need to use the paddles except for manual downshifts when approaching traffic lights or roundabouts to make use of the engine braking effect. The Revo Stg 1 remap more than enough for what I need without having to resort to any more expensive mods. My insurance company (LV) were OK with the power upgrade as well. Maybe not if I was younger!

Since it's my car (which I will be keeping for quite a while) & not a lease car, I prefered the Revo remap over a tuning box. Other remap firms / suppliers are out there but I think Revo is one of the best around for VAG cars. I'm now waiting for Revo to come out with a stage 1 remap for the 1.5Tsi in our Karoq 4 x 4 DSG which is a bit lethargic by comparison. Even in sport mode it's not easy to get the Karoq off the line very quickly due to the anti stall software it now has to cure the kangarooing problems they had with the earlier models. That said the Karoq is my wife's car & she's not interested in more power. Any mods to the Karoq would be for my benefit when I drive it, which might more often because to save costs we are considering dropping down to one car between the two of us. The problem is whilst my wife can drive my Superb she prefers the Karoq. So the question is can I live without the power & practicality of the Superb estate? I think I'll wait a bit longer before I make that decision🤔

I’m in a 272, sportline. Did consider l&k, then found a sportline  with DCC, canton, heated bits n bobs.

I’ve lost 2k in three years if I got what autotrader reckon. I brought it at 4 mths  old.

problem is swmbo does not like the seats. That said she’s not driven it either ;)  She may of liked the l&k.

I opted for a throttle/pedal box till now. In sport with pedal box set to race 1, it’s quite peppy. Toying with a remap.

mostly use it in individual sport everything, drive eco, tap it back to sport when I want it.l to pick up its skirt and go.

Morning .  I know the differences between the two and that subjective, and been done to death a bit ( apologies ).

I'm on the verge of plumping for a new Superb 280 estate.  been talking myself in and out of it for ages.  lead times now getting a bit better, getting a good deal, and will get a good trade in on current VRS.

Planning on black, DCC, towbar prep, possibly winter pack and possibly sunroof.  I know that won't be as agile as a VRS, but would definitely look like a big VRS .

However, taking into account that an L&K already has a good bit of extra kit ( of which DCC is my must have ), a comparable L&K is coming in about £20 a month cheaper!  arrggghh!

I keep thinking I'm young ( 49 and 11 mths! ) , and that the L&K looks ( and might feel ? ) a bit more like an old man's car.   Possibly in black and maybe with 19inch wheels would look more "sporty" ( I know that's not the point of an L&K ) .  Or maybe on certain 18 inch wheels still good .

Question is,  whether 280 or not, has anyone been in the same position, looking at Sportline, then decided to go for an L&K, and glad they did ?

I'm a terrible one for "what if" !!

thanks

Paying more for less never seems to make sense in my mind. Same engine same gearbox but despite the economics, I would always go for the car I like!

.and after all my back and forth, with the way every other price is going, I think I'm going to hold off for now and keep the mk 3 VRS. Bought and paid for, 3 yrs old, and only 14k on the clock. Final decision time as come, as the Skoda prices go up tomorrow ( the same day that gas bills at home probably double!!! ) .

Order times still somewhere around 30 weeks they say, which just feels like a guess .  At those sort of times then I'd be getting the car Nov-Dec, and then 6 months later the Superb mk 4 could be out.  Feels like I might try and be first in line for one of them.

I was looking at second hand prices for the few cars that are out there as well, and at the moment not far off new ( and actually cost more to finance as no £3k contribution, and higher interest rates than on new cars)

..and at the same time as the above, I'm now going to totally contradict myself, in that if a newish car arrived at a local dealer I'd prob drive it, love it and go for it !!

Agree the Superb is not for hooning around and therefore the Sportline doesn’t tick enough of a box. Tbh I would look at a Leon Cupra 300 Lux or Cupra R estate for that (Golf R but with DCC as standard and the Cupra R ABT pack is bloody good). The Superb has space and refinement on tap and is for more for swallowing up miles than b-road bashing. Sports seats would feel nice but…vented seats are infectious.

A little while ago Audi did the S8 (5.2 v10) and the 6.0 W12. Both similar in performance, just slightly different interpretation. I think of the Sportline/L&K as a (much lower performance) comparison. You’ll love both I’m sure.

whoops - bit late to the party…

Sportline/L&K

ordered yesterday L&K 280
Sportline has less equipment with €1.5k higher price

missing equipment for me:
L&K -  Black Exterior pack, interested at least for doors, because "chrome" dies so fast.
Sportline - Vented seats, Safety lights for rear doors, phone/tablet holder under headrest

both can't be ordered with 17" alloys 😞
