Window Mechanism Again

Featured Replies

Reversing out of the drive this morning, rolled the passenger front window down to see better as it was wet, and bang! Window fell inside the door. Cables all wrapped around the regulator plastic cog where the motor drives it. Two years is all I got out of a full new regulator panel :x

Ebay.

Had a heck of a job drilling the pop rivets out of the regulator uprights to get the panel off. The rivets were just spinning with the drill but I got them in the end.

Is there a brand you recommend? I thought they were all pretty much the same apart from genuine which will probably be an arm and a leg?

This was the new one that has just failed...

Since I'm thinking of getting rid of the car soon, I think I will just fit another similar one.

Only just bought a new indicator stalk too as my main beam flash has thrown the towel in.

Nice day outside so I got the indicator stalk done. Main beam now flashes again 👍 Airbag light was on afterwards so had to erase the code. Stalk was quite a bargain at £16.90 for a Meyle one.

Convinced VW use the same one for every car in the range, even the one in a 2016 touareg looks the same as the one in my 2001 fabia :D

I think you're right :D

This thread fills me with dread lads !! This is an obvious message to tell me to fix mine 🤔

Me too…. Mine has been playing up (when it’s half open and I go to close it with the one-touch it’ll close a little bit then open almost fully, plus it’s being a little lazy when closing) these last 12 months so waiting for the inevitable crunch sound, followed by lack of movement of the window 🥴

Had been thinking that I would put my hand in my pocket and get one from TPS or GSF as had read these cheap ones are not up to much, so glad I can benefit from TMB’s recent experience 😇

With window half open, gently try lifting the glass by hand near the rear of the pane. I think you'll find a lot of movement there compared to doing the same further forward. That'll be the rear slider broken, and the front one doing all the work.

Ah interesting, much appreciated.

Those pesky rivets make me not want to see if I can do anything about it, but guess I’ll add it to the list of things that need my attention ☺️

New panel has arrived. Paid twice as much this time for something that pupports to be ''OE Quality''.
