Front Passenger Stub Axle Compatibility Question.

Featured Replies

Hello all, first timer so please go easy :) I have a 2007 Mkii 1.6 16v Petrol Fabia. Unfortunately, I've stripped a caliper pin and will be needing a S/H passenger side stub axle. I've seen one advertised from a 2015, 1.4 Diesel. I know that they both share a 256mm disc size. Is it too long of a shot to ask if they will be compatible? I don't know the correct way to go about this unfortunately and I'm appealing to your insider knowledge, very new to Skodas but loving this car already, drives and covers ground like a Mk1 Golf Gti :)

Many thanks in advance,

Chris

You can buy repair kits for the threads, or fit a helicoil.

I think the top four or five results here are the sort of thing that'll do the job. Considerably less work than replacing the whole shebang.

A bit confusing post, do you mean you have stripped the slide pin thread on the bracket or the thread on the actual strut that holds the bracket onto the strut? eithier one is not called a stub axle so see the confusion,  you can get a thread repair kit for the caliper bracket for the pins and also the thread in the strut part, if changing the caliper bracket to remerdy the stripped thread you need disc size and caliper make as each caliper uses it's own type of pins, Fabia MK2 can use up to 3 different types of caliper on the front so you need to be careful, if it's the same make as yours, i came across a Fabia with 2 different types of pads fitted on each front wheel once and the guy could not understand why, as prevoius post d suggested thread repair kit is the best option, if you get the carrier off perhaps a garage might be able to helicoil or do the repair for you thus saving you quite a bit of money

Thanks for getting back to me. Apologies for any confusion. I've stripped the caliper slide pin thread and/or the thread that that couples to on the caliper carrier. I've just measured the caliper pin and it's 9mm. I'm guessing that that means I can purchase the  M9 caliper repair kit as @Pete_Ex-Wino mentioned above??

Well if you're not sure if the female thread is actually damaged, you should find that out first, just use the other (undamaged?) guide pin as a tester to see if it goes in OK and tightens up without slipping.

The repair kits exist because this is such a common knob-up caused by failing to get the caliper back in position properly before starting to do up the guide pins.
