Octy II vRS VAG-COM Settings

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I have seen in a number of post & magazines that using the VAG-COM a number of tweaks/options can be set. I understand this can include central locking above a given speed & setting the alarm to "beep" when the car is unlocked/locked. However does anyone know what other options there are, if they are of use and if these are re-set at service?

My dealer has been great, but doesn't seem to like entering to such questions:confused: , Also they were unsure if the normal rear mud flaps will fit the vRS, so can anyone advise me?

Kindest Regards:thumbup:

You can adjust the xenon head lights if you have them. I tries this using a member's VAG COM but it was way out. The dealer did it for me in the end, it took 2 goes to get it right!!

Anti hijack locking. Easy with VAG COM

Beep on lock and or unlock Easy with VAG COM

Lighter or heavier settings on the power steering Easy with VAG COM but you need to know what to set it to (Search threads)

ARG valve (Search Threads)

Fault codes found and reset

Other VAG COM (Not sure)

MUDFLAPS:

Not sure about the Octavia but rear mudflaps dont fit the Fabia vRS unless you carry out a slight mod with a Stanley Knife! (Thread search will find it)

Good luck!!

Thanks Chris,

Wondered about that lot. Alarm beep would be handy as the locks seem much quieter than our Fabia, so you don't always hear it lock or see the indicator flash. Have gone back to it a couple of times! Do you know how quick or easy this is to do? Don't want to be fobbed off with the usual "minimum 1 hour labour" if it's a 2 minute job!

Humph mud flap mods... i'm never very safe with a sharp knife! Think I will leave that for a day when the local casualty department is quiet!:D

Thanks again.

There are quite a few things you can change but it's slightly different on the Octavia II (and other A5 platform cars) to other Skoda's. You'll need a CANBUS lead for a start.

The changes are made but varying either the Long or Short Coding options.

Long Coding in derived from a Hexadecimal value Short Coding is drived in a similar way from a list of choices.

Beep on lock and or unlock Easy with VAG COM

With the Octavia Mk2 you cannot switch on and off the lock/unlock beep as it is not part of the alarm system controller.

You can only do the beeps with alarm fitted Fabias.

i've tried with the help of a friend, with a hexcan interface and vag com, it couldn't find that module, wich sets beeps on open/close from the remote. I have a OEM alarm. Too bad...there is another setting that can be made, in oreder to increase the volume of the alarm...i believe that "rest of europe" makes the most noise..otherwise, it sound like a drunk cat..:D

i believe that ARG it's EGR valve

I believe if it is available on the Octy II then it will be Controller 46.

Unfortunately not had a chance to try it.

You need to change the Bits in Byte 6 but it depends on the part number of your controller.

The rest of europe setting is a different style of alarm rather than louder. There are 2 settings for it (as for the UK one) but I don't know what they do.

If it was avaliable it would be in the long coding section. US spec Golfs/Jettas have it as it mentions it on the Ross tech website, but it is not on the Octavia at all.

That's what I'm talking about Jeff.

Long codes - Change one or two of the Bits in Byte 6 of the long code.

Would it be to do with that alarm stopping after a period of time, noise pollution. Different countries with different laws, I think the dealer mentioned it.

today i've set a meeting for monday morning, with a forum coleague (a local forum :D ), wich "happens" to work in the electrical department of my skoda dealer's service. With VAS he'll do it in matter of minutes, he said...i'l be back with details. Still, it's starnge that vag com could't find that specific module...

As already said it is not possible to turn on the alarm beep via VAG-COM. I've been through this several times months ago. I think it's more to do with noise legislation than the setup of the alarm itself not being capable of allowing it. Maybe a regional thing or related to the A5 platform as mentioned. You can turn ot on in the Audi A6 but not the MkV Golf for example.

That's what the dealer said to us when we picked up our Octavia 2. We had asked him to set up the anti-hijacking and drive-off locking etc, and also to enable both rear fog lights (I hate just one working) but he said that the alarm activation and de-activation 'beep' was no longer available.

Enabling 'both' rear foglights! Great i didnt know they could do that. Thought it was just one or the other. Good to know.Cheers.

Can you give more detail on how he did this? is it just a "setting" on vag-com & fitting a bulb, or is it a bit more complicated? I also have a pet hate of single fog lights & the last time I did this on a mkII golf it required a fair bit of re wiring!

I am hoping this is simple to do as I need the anti hi-jacking setting and if this could be done at the same time I would be very pleased;)

Again it's a setting that can be changed by the dealer or with VAG-COM.

I'd also love to hear of the 2nd fog light being enable, if anyone else does it through VAG COM let me know

Lock /Unlock Beep done...via VAS (5052, i think). It took only 3 minutes. I 've changed the pattern of the alarm too (it's not o drunk cat any more..:D).

Been reading and reading trying to understand what vag can and cant do for the octy II vRS settings to see whether its worth getting the hex-can-usb version to play around with. Can anyone clarify a few things for me?

I translated this page to English

http://de.openobd.org/skoda/octavia_1z.htm#69

and compared it to the english page covering the golf V here

http://en.openobd.org/vw/golf_1k.htm

Seems that there are similar but not quite the same but all the settings that can be changed seem to be there including most of the questions I have seen in the forums (running lights, fogs, wipers, locking, anti hijacking, timing delay on coming home features, country, etc etc)

Now I am a bit stuck and my remaining questions are:

1 - Does VAG-COM clearly explain (via bubble windows or whatever) what all the long and short coding options do? ie does it recognise the car version when it connects? or do you have to manually work out the codes using the tables?

2 - Where do you get the full english tables from in this case? (or is openobd the source)

3 - Is the best place to buy from www.gendan.co.uk or is there a smarter way to get started?

(I know much of this may best be on the vag forum but there doesnt seem to be much specific to hex-can and long/short coding there)

Thanks

Did You succeed activating both rear fog lights????

Is there a light bulb in the inactive place?

What is anti-hijacking?

Anti Hi Jacking locks the doors when you drive of and reach around 15mph.
